How could and would you describe Alentejo in Portugal? Hm, let me try.
Alentejo is characterized above all by its rolling hills, olive groves, cereal fields, vineyards and cork oak forests, the landscape there is an eye catcher. In the middle of the fertile grassland, cattle, sheep, ostriches, horses and pigs graze. The white villages and towns, where time gets relatively a special flair is in the air. The Alentejan coast stretches over 165 km and offers endless long, flat sandy beaches. Further south you will find the lonely sandy bays, an area dominated by the cliffs. The Southeast Alentejo Nature Park and the Costa Vicentina, with more than 100 km of coastline, are considered the best preserved protected area on the European continent.
The cultural heritage of the Alentejo is extremely diverse and colourful, due to the different peoples who have shaped it in the past. Tumuli, fortified settlements, Moorish courtyards and ornamentation, Roman temples, aqueducts, monasteries and fortresses are just some of these legacies.

O Alentejo caracteriza-se sobretudo pelas suas colinas onduladas, olivais, campos de cereais, vinhedos e sobreiros, a paisagem que lá se encontra é apelativa. No meio dos prados férteis, pastam gado bovino, ovino, avestruzes, cavalos e porcos. As aldeias e vilas brancas, onde o tempo se torna relativamente especial, estão no ar. A costa alentejana estende-se ao longo de 165 km e oferece infinitas praias de areia plana e longa. Mais a sul encontram-se as solitárias baías arenosas, uma área dominada pelas falésias. O Parque Natural do Sudeste Alentejano e a Costa Vicentina, com mais de 100 km de costa, são considerados a área protegida mais bem preservada do continente europeu.
O património cultural do Alentejo é extremamente diversificado e colorido, devido aos diferentes povos que o moldaram no passado. Túmulos, povoados fortificados, pátios e ornamentações mouriscos, templos romanos, aquedutos, mosteiros e fortalezas são apenas alguns destes legados.
Especial Tipp, é um óptimo local para a prática do surf.

Alentejo zeichnet vor allen Dingen die sanften Hügeln, Olivenhainen, Getreidefeldern, Weinbergen und Korkeichenwäldern aus, die Landschaft dort ist wunderschön anzusehen. Inmitten des fruchtbarem Grasland, weiden Rinder, Schafe, Strauße, Pferde und Schweine. Die weißen Dörfer und Städte, in denen das Leben seinen eigenen, gemütlichen Lauf geht strahlen besonderes Flair aus. Die alentejanische Küste erstreckt sich über 165 km lang und bietet endlos lange, flache Sandstrände, weiter südlich wiederum findet man die einsamen Sandbuchten, eine Gegend die von der Steilküste dominiert wird. Der Naturpark Südost-Alentejo und die Costa Vicentina gelten mit ihren mehr als 100 km Küstenlinie als das am besten erhaltene Schutzgebiet des europäischen Kontinents.
Das kulturelle Erbe des Alentejo ist durch die unterschiedlichen Völker, die es in der Vergangenheit geprägt haben, äußerst vielfältig und bunt gemischt. Hügelgräber, befestigte Siedlungen, maurisch geprägte Innenhöfe, römische Tempel, Klöster und Festungsstätte sind nur einige dieser Hinterlassenschaften.
Auch zum surfen findet man die ein oder andere Gelegenheit.
