Another busy day: a tyre to fix, hens to wake up, a nap to catch up on, a field to sow and a phone to resuscitate. Grab a coffee, here's how it went. βπ
π First stop: the tyre shop
The morning started at the tyre shop, to repair a flat tyre. Tyres always go flat like this: never on days off, never when you have time, always when the to-do list is already long. Tyre fixed: first item crossed off, only nine left (plus the ones on their way). π§π
π Rise and shine, ladies: field trip!
Then it was the hens' turn: wake-up call! They didn't need to be asked twice and headed straight out into the stubble field, with the confidence of someone who booked the all-inclusive buffet. No vegetable garden to raid here, just space, stubble and freedom: they enjoyed it as if they had invented it. πΎ
π§οΈ Rain, my favourite boss
Then came the rain. For anyone living in the countryside, rain is an official permission slip to do nothing: I took it literally and used it to catch up on some overdue sleep. π΄ Sleep debt never gets fully paid off, but a nice instalment, with raindrops on the roof as background music, is paid gladly. Zero guilt: nature had set the table for a nap, and it would have been rude to decline.
π± In the evening: seeds in the wind
In the evening, armed with seeds and optimism, I went down to the field to broadcast-sow the organic green manure seeds. For the uninitiated: green manure (sovescio) is a mix of seeds (cereals and legumes) that you sow and then dig back into the soil, so the ground gets fed with greenery instead of bags. And broadcast sowing means the solemn gesture of the sower of old: wide arm swing, throw, then trust luck and the wind. Hence the title: seeds in the wind, quite literally. π¬οΈ
The field, after all, is also @choko.shock's training track, and with his green ball he reminds everyone how to cross a meadow: at full speed, head held high and asking nobody's permission. ππ¨
π± Chronicle of a dive foretold
And now the less poetic part. The day before yesterday, while pouring the soaked seeds into the strainer, my phone fell right under the water jet. The seeds were supposed to get a bath, the phone wasn't, but nobody had explained that to the phone. π±π¦
Since then I've been using a spare phone, and yesterday I lost quite a bit of time reconfiguring it, between apps, logins and settings: an experience I only recommend to my enemies. As for the drowned phone, it's now resting inside a pile of rice, hoping to draw the moisture out of the camera. Sceptics say rice does very little; luckily, the rice hasn't read the comments. π
Today at Ca' Paradiso everything was soaked: the seeds in water, the field under the rain, the phone in rice and me in sleep. Fingers crossed (and grains too). π€
Your turn: has your phone ever fallen into water? What was your remedy (rice, silica gel, prayers)? And have you ever tried green manure in your garden? π
