i awoke from the sound of the doorbell ringing, someone was at the door. at 9 am. on a sunday! who on earth would come visit at that ungodly hour on a sunday? so i dragged myself to the door and met a delivery guy. it was not mine but for my housemate. accepted the package and came back in seething. why is the concerned individual not awake while the unconcerned me had to arise from whatever dream i had? these are the joys of living in a shared home, oh well. reslept.

we decided to eat out at lunch, i was just excited to go out no matter where it is. my housemate brought me to this chinese restaurant, he was smitten by some video in instagram. ichiban is the name of the shop, which literally translates to number one. there was nothing extraordinary of the place, it was your typical old style chinese restaurant. it was beside the road on a very small neighborhood, so unassuming. but there was a queue of people outside. queues are signs of greatness.

i noticed this tiny alley across, moss ran down both sides. very residential. so imagine a restaurant in a very residential area with a queue outside. what good food could they serve around here. it started to drizzle, i could no longer take a picture of the store front partially due to the waiting people in front. here is a google maps link for reference instead.

we were finally called in after around 30 minutes of waiting. i already knew what to eat, they took our orders even before we could enter. that was a good way of keeping customers from leaving, like shackles to our feet. a decent man would be ashamed to leave after giving orders, they could have started preparing the food which would be a waste when you leave.

the restaurant was indeed very small, 5 tables in total. i kind of expected that they had a counter where you could see woks ablaze. ambiance was very minimal.

then came the food. i was curious of this seafood spring roll, the family in front at the queue ordered them as well. this seemed to be a best seller, and it did not disappoint. perfectly seasoned large shrimp and squid meat wrapped and perfectly fried to a crunch.

then came this stir fried pork and veggies. this too did its part of cutting the seafood overload taste. not too oily and retained the vegetable crunch. in every meal have a portion of veggies they say, this is that portion.

last came the main dish, shrimp fried rice (ebi chahan). it had seven big shrimps on top a scoop of fried rice. shrimp overload indeed! but it complemented the fried rice, seasoned just enough. not overwhelming, but tastes just right. this made this big boy happy. it also came with an egg drop soup and some pickles to cleanse the palate.

i paid less that 2000 yen or 12 dollars in total for this meal (the veggies and spring roll was shared). with such a generous serving of shrimp at a reasonable price, no wonder people go the extra mile to come to this place, a gem out of nowhere.

later that night was a leg day. after all those eating, i am just glad to hit the gym. just to be quick, below is our gym routine. nothing new but officially embraced that 5kg increase on the dead lift and around 7kg jump at the calf extension. i was too tired to do the leg press.

  • pull ups (12 x 10)
  • squats (70kg x 3 x 12)
  • dead lift (45kg x 3 x 12)
  • lunges (25kg x 3 x 12 per leg)
  • bulgarian split squat (25kg x 2 x 12 per leg)
  • leg extensions (52kg x 4 x 10)
  • calf extension (165kg x 3 x 12)
  • leg curls (36kg x 4 x 10)

as always, take care always. AMPING KANUNAY!
