One place that we like to go to for a quick and easy cheap eat is the same place that we do our Asian food wholesale groceries! It is also near a pool that we also tend to go to as well, so sometimes we combine (pool...) our activies, and do the pool, then go and have a bit to eat here, and then do our food shopping all in the same trip.

The Space

So, as a I had mentioned earlier... the place is a food wholesaler... with a small catine/restaurant attached. So, the main building is gigantic... after all it is a large storage facility! However, as you can see from the top featured photo... the restaurant is more like a normal sit down cantine.

The Menu

The food is laid out in bain-maries... and a good deal of it has to be reheated quickly in microwaves before being ready to serve... but the servings are generous, quick and cheap!

There is a distinct focus on Chinese and Indonesian styles of food (surprise, it is an Asian wholesaler...)... of which, I would probably say that the Indonesian food is more successful. On the other hand, I probably say that as I have Chinese heritage... probably an Indonesian would say that the Chinese food is better!

There really isn't a menu of sorts... you just point to what you want... and hopefully the sign on the bain-marie is somewhat accurate!

The Food

I'm afraid that there was no menu, so nothing much to jog my memory of what the dishes were... I'll do my best to remember them!

First up was the Spicy chicken in a soy rice with some cabbage. A decent eat, but a touch too spicy for me!

Some Sweet soy beef with rice.... this was my favourite... like a sweet beef stew, although the meat was still a little tough to eat. Could probably have stewed for much longer!

Another spicy dish... beef and noodles. I was hoping that the noodles would be a touch more crispy... but especially after a quick microwaving... they were definitely more soggy than crunchy. Ah well....

Something that is a bit of a strange Indonensian (?) speciality, that the Dutch have really taken to is the boiled and fried egg, in a spicy sauce. It's a strange concept if you aren't familiar with it... but oddly nice as a side dish...

The Experience

What can I say... it is very cheap... the food is plentiful... however, the quality is a touch ordinary. I wouldn't normally choose to eat here... but it is convenient as there is nothing else close by and we are in the neighbourhood anyway!

Service is functional... they serve and serve fast... no chit chat!

Despite all of this, the place is usually quite busy. It is close enough to residential and commercial areas to attract a strong lunch crowd that are looking for a big fill at a decent price. Also, there is the steady traffic from the wholesale part of the building as well. So, I would wager that they do pretty well... I just wish that the quality was a step up... it could be a really good showcase for the food that they are selling in the shop section of the building.
