The biggest museum I have ever seen. It’s more like a palace of Pharaohs. All antiques and belongings of Pharaohs are kept here. Collection of statues and mummies are well preserved here safely. It’s one of the best place for history lovers.
I lived in Egypt for 4 years. In 2008, my family went there but I waited outside. Honestly, I was not interested going in there instead took fresh air and relaxed on the green grass. It’s not that I don’t like museums, I have visited several museums and historical places but I just don’t feel like going in there.
After the Egyptian revolution of 2011, in the month of May, one of my friend asked me to plan for the visit to the museum. It was my last month in Egypt and he insisted me to come along. Just for the sake of our friendship, I agreed and we planned to go in couple of days.
The museum is located near Tehreer Square, the famous spot of 2011 revolution. During the revolution period, museum was targeted by some people. No one knows who they were but did a lot of damage to the collection of antiques. Some of them were stolen and some were badly damaged. The nearby building was put on fire and it was looking horrible.
When we went there, some construction work was going on. Due to the after effects of revolution, there were not much tourists. I have seen the crowd there in 2008 but this time, it was all looking too different. Just few tourist along with some locals. Inside, it looks little dark to me. We roam around a bit and then searched for mummies. They were on first floor, a lot of mummies lying in the glass frames.
While looking at the statues and mummies, I was thinking of “Night at the museum” (the movie). If these things come alive at midnight. I had a feeling that there is something unusual in that building although, didn’t see any paranormal activity but I felt that way. It was not allowed to take pictures inside the building at that time however, my friend managed to click few through his cell phone.
After a quick tour inside, we relaxed outside and took some great and memorable pictures.
Overall, it was not that bad as I was expecting and we 2 had a great time altogether.
