My memories at Ukrainian summer houses (Dacha) "Сова, Коробовы Хутора (COBA, Koropove)" - Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine

I was not so sure what category post I should write because I have a lot to say but I cannot feel like writing. A lot of travel stories are pending, and different locations in Kharkiv, Ukraine are also pending. Besides, my confused mind always put me into dilemmas about my thoughts. I have been in such a kind of life phase where I don't have any goal or focus; I am completely demotivated about everything. So, writing something pleasant or sharing an astonishing memory is quite hard for me right now. But today, I will push myself to write something pleasant to feel good. A part of me constantly tells me to share one piece of my memory that not only makes me happy but also drives me to feel grateful about life.

Spring and summer was the best time for exploration and traveling around Ukraine. I was lucky enough to travel to different locations within Kharkiv Oblast. Most of the locations I have visited are located in the countryside in Kharkiv oblast. During summer, many resorts were opened and most of them were traditional Ukrainian summer houses.

These summer houses are known as Dacha. They are mostly made of mud and wood. Completely different architectural structure and is very traditional. So, when I was in Kharkiv, I visited such a resort area in a village, far away from Kharkiv city.

COBA (Сова)

COBA is located at "Koropove", Zadonetsky village, Zmiyivsky district near National Pryrodnyy Park in Kharkiv Oblast. A beautiful location where many resorts were located. This resort is open to everyone, anybody can go there and can spend the entire day, even at night as well. For the night, a reservation is needed but for the entire day, a reservation is not needed. But if you need a family cottage (dacha) and want to experience the traditional homestyle life, pre-booking is better.

Seeing these mud houses, I was recalling and found similarities with the Hobbit House. It looked the same to me as a Hobbit house. Anyway, what I was trying to say is that spring and summer were the tourist season in Ukraine and people used to love spending their time in the countryside within nature. Most of the Dachas and resorts were located near the river or lake. So many activities can be done there.

Our trip was sudden, we just wanted to take a road trip and ended up at Koropove Village. It was beautiful summer and was sunny and beautiful weather to enjoy nature and natural beauties. We started our trip from Kharkiv City and it took almost 2 hours to reach the village. We obviously brought food with us because you feel hungry on the road trip. Our plan was to spend our day seeing sightseeing and then we will go to COBA to spend the rest of our day.

When we reached COBA I was feeling so relaxed and relieved after the long trip. There was something at that location, it was relaxing though it was crowded. As I said, Kharkiv people love to spend their summers in Dacha.

The entrance of COBA was not so special, a typical entrance with a wooden door. After entering the resort compound, I was mesmerized by the greenery and natural beauty. It was so green and relaxing that I was completely living my every moment there. What I love about this resort is they didn't destroy nature in fact they decided to blend their business with nature. Nothing looked artificial to me in fact when you go to a village, you will see such traditional things.

For example, these small birdhouses were located near the entrance, along with some broken rustic-looking lanterns. They seemed unique but not artificial. The gardens and landscape were designed in such a way that you won't feel that you are somewhere else. You will easily find yourself in nature and your solitude moment.

The sitting area is located near the pond that was covered with green water plants. It was basically a dining area as well where you can enjoy your lunch or dinner. The sitting area is semi-shaded, very conceptual wooden structure. Anyone can enjoy their solitude moment there or can enjoy a beer.

The bonfire area; is very special for the evening. People who decide to spend their night here can enjoy the bonfire. People also do BBQ parties here.

A lot of small gardens mostly filled with roses were scattered here and there.

A nice sitting area to enjoy Hookah/ Sisha with family and friends. All the furniture was made of wood and tree branches. This zone seemed like a garden area to me.

This is a perfect place for dogs and kids. I saw kids playing with each other while families were relaxing. A very precious moment I enjoyed there. I was sitting on this fallen tree trunk for some time.

The best moment I have spent was in this riverside deck area. It was crowded because people were swimming and fishing around but it didn't hamper my me moment. The water of the river was very calm, and birds were singing around. On the opposite side of the river was the forest area, people normally go there for hiking. Some people were exploring the river by boat, some were kayaking. I heard that many people come to spend the night in the forest area with tents.

Adults along with the children were swimming in the river. Only one guy was trying fishing standing on the wooden deck. I wonder whether he was able to catch any fish or not because people were swimming there. Fishes normally don't like crowds, lol...

I didn't take a swim but I found a sitting area from where I was able to see and enjoy all the activities around me. I always like to spend time near the water, especially near rivers, lakes, or canals. This river is the branch of the Siverskyi Donets River.

We didn't buy food from the resort instead we ate our own food. In the afternoon time, we smoked Hookah and enjoyed the beautiful riverside view.

It's not easy to find such locations in the city areas, only you can experience such traditional moments in suburban areas. Summertime is hot but near the river and close to nature, anyone can enjoy the summer.

In Kharkiv, bicycles are not very common so seeing this cycle here had made me curious...

I won't forget this waterlily area where I have spent an hour just sitting. I wish I could express more of my feelings and memories...We spent our whole day there...

I know it's not possible now to explore these locations because of the Ukraine war. This trip was made before the war when I was in Kharkiv. No matter how old these photos are, I feel I have taken them yesterday whenever I see them. I felt Hive is the best platform to keep this location documented so that when the war will be over, anybody can visit this location. Some locations are only for locals and they are like hidden gems. Nobody outside knows about these hidden locations, they are precious... My thought was to highlight the location and my travel experience with you...

You can see the videos as well...

Your memories, dear @priyanarc, awakened in me a painful nostalgia for a peaceful Ukraine. And although everything seems to be relatively calm in my Lviv, I have been abroad for more than a year. My life has changed so much in the last three years: my mom and dad died, the war started.... I need a reboot. I don't know when I will return to Ukraine. My daughters don't want to come back... It's as if many, many years have passed and my life in Ukraine was life on another planet where there was no war! Thank you for the memories.

Hello dear, @olga.maslievich I know you have been in abroad for a year just like me and I can imagine how you feel about Ukraine. The situation in the West is comparatively calm than in the east part of Ukraine but it is still dangerous because anything can happen at any time. I heard many people returned already but I am really scared to go back now knowing it's not safe. Losing parents is not so easy and hard to recover from the loss and this war completely destroyed our normal life... I hope one day we will be able to return to our land safely...

What a beautiful place! So quite and connected with nature. The shape of that little house and the windows are super cute!

Exactly, it was a scenic and mesmerizing location for summer. Even spending time near the river was amazing and so many activities people do there. The only problem is too many mosquitos in the evening... But it is a perfect place for a BBQ party, for family, and for a picnic...

The place is beautiful, when I saw the first images I thought of the hobbits!! Thanks to this publication there will always be testimony of its beauty. I hope the life and atmosphere you enjoyed can return soon.

A hug, my dear. ❤️

I had a great time there and trust me my heart breaks whenever I think about what's happening there currently due to the war situation. But yes, this place will stay and hopefully will survive. Maybe in the future, I will be able to hang out there once again like in the past...

I hope you can fulfill that wish. Hope also serves for that place. In your memories it will continue to exist just as you knew it. ❤️
