The first day in Banská Štiavnica we visited the New Castle and today we went to the historic center to see the older one.

We enter the castle courtyard of the Old Castle through the entrance gate, which is extremely impressive. It is a bell tower, which got its current form in 1777. It is here that I choose a camera and take the first photos of this amazing place.

The castle looks old to me and not ostentatious at all. No wonder, because it was an anti-Ottoman fortress and not a magnificent castle in which the manor enjoyed. From the 16th century, the castle conscientiously protected the inhabitants of Banská Štiavnica and the surrounding area from the Ottoman threat.

But its origins date back to the 13th century. At that time, they built a church on this site, which later surrounded the wall. As the threat of an Ottoman invasion approached from the south, they rebuilt the church into its current form - a castle.

At present, there are several expositions at the castle, which show their visitors life in Banská Štiavnica and its surroundings.

These are, for example, the exhibition Miners Are Coming, an exhibition of shooting targets, a blacksmith's or a smoking workshop.

In the castle courtyard there is, among other things, this well, which fascinated me. It has a historical touch.

From the castle there is a nice view of the city, the New Castle or the Calvary, which I will choose in my next post.

Well thank you.
