Obispo Street in Old Havana is one of the oldest and busiest roads of the colonial city. Surrounded by old buildings, it is characterized by being only for pedestrian passage, which is magnificent since it is a narrow street and it is very comfortable to be able to walk in the center without the worry of crossing paths with any vehicle. Pedestrians are the absolute owners of Obispo, and the only traffic we should worry about is that of people who sometimes crowd together and make passage difficult.
This is a street known for its wide boulevard, much visited in other years, where one could find any product or food. In these recent times of economic problems, the quantity and variety of stores has decreased but even so, it continues to be a place of reference and with a varied commercial offer.
Something that has not changed in Obispo and that maintains its popularity is the fair of artisans and artists that is located at #411, corner of Aguacate. There, on the different platforms, a great variety of items are exhibited for sale, such as souvenirs, pieces of goldsmithing, handicrafts made with different materials, and commercial paintings.
The fair is open every day and is managed by the Cuban Association of Artisans and Artists, which guarantees that the products exhibited meet certain standards of quality and authenticity.
For these reasons this is a very visited space, especially by tourists who want to take a memory of Cuba. Here quality prevails and the artisans who have their place in this fair are experienced artists with mastery of their art and a passion that is reflected in each piece. In fact, many of them sell their creations directly, so in addition to taking a beautiful memory one can meet the artist who created it.
Walking along Obispo and visiting this fair is like taking a pause in the middle of the bustle. Outside the street boils with the heat of the day and the comings and goings of passersby. Inside, among platforms and colorful products, time seems to move more calmly, and although Obispo is no longer what it once was, its artisans’ fair remains with its creativity and tradition.
Here simple handicraft products are not sold, a piece of Cuba made by hand is sold. So if you ever walk along Obispo, go in, perhaps you will leave with something more than a souvenir, a beautiful story to tell.

La calle Obispo en La Habana Vieja es una de las vías más antiguas y transitadas de la ciudad colonial. Rodeada por antiguas edificaciones, se caracteriza por ser únicamente para el paso peatonal, lo cual es magnífico ya que es una calle estrecha y es muy cómodo poder caminar por el centro sin la preocupación de cruzarnos con algún vehículo. Los peatones son los dueños absolutos de Obispo, y el único tráfico que debería preocuparnos es el de las personas que a veces se aglomeran y hacen complicado el paso.
Esta es una calle conocida por su amplio boulevard, muy visitada en otros años, donde se podía encontrar cualquier producto o alimento. En estos últimos tiempos de problemas económicos, la cantidad y variedad de tiendas ha disminuido, pero aun así, sigue siendo un lugar de referencia y con una variada oferta comercial.
Algo que no ha cambiado en Obispo y que mantiene su popularidad es la feria de artesanos y artistas que se encuentra en el #411, esquina Aguacate . Allí se exponen, en las diferentes tarimas, una gran variedad de artículos para la venta, como suvenires, piezas de orfebrería, artesanías elaboradas con diferentes materiales y pinturas comerciales.
La feria está abierta todos los días y está gestionada por la Asociación Cubana de Artesanos y Artistas, lo que garantiza que los productos expuestos cumplen con ciertos estándares de calidad y autenticidad.
Por estas razones este es un espacio muy visitado, sobre todo por los turistas que quieren llevarse un recuerdo de Cuba. Aquí se impone la calidad y los artesanos que tienen su sitio en esta feria son artistas de experiencia con un dominio de su arte y una pasión que se refleja en cada pieza. De hecho, muchos de ellos venden directamente sus creaciones, por lo que además de llevarse un bonito recuerdo se puede conocer al artista que lo creó.
Caminar por Obispo y visitar esta feria es como hacer una pausa en medio del bullicio. Afuera la calle hierve con el calor del día y el ir y venir de los transeúntes. Adentro entre tarimas y productos coloridos el tiempo parece moverse con más calma, y aunque Obispo ya no es lo que era ante, su feria de artesanos se mantiene con su de creatividad y tradición.
Aquí no se venden simples productos artesanales, se vende un pedazo de Cuba hecho a mano. Así que si alguna vez caminas por Obispo entra, quizás salgas con algo más que un souvenir, una bonita historia para contar.
