Hello travelers of the @worldmappin community!
Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to discover one of the most beautiful natural parks on the island of Cuba, called 'El Nicho', located in the province of Cienfuegos. In this first part of the tour, I will show you how the journey was, the history, the entrance to the center, its main ranchón, the snack bar, and the contact with nature.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a conocer uno de los parques naturales más bellos de la isla de Cuba, llamado 'El Nicho', ubicado en la provincia de Cienfuegos. En esta primera parte del recorrido les mostraré cómo fue la travesía, la historia, la entrada al centro, su ranchón principal, el snack bar y el contacto con la naturaleza.

I had been wanting to visit this excursion for months, even more so because I enjoy this type of trip and relaxing from the routine environment of home and work.
The invitation came thanks to some friends who had been signed up for days for the vehicle's capacity, but they still had 8 seats available, so I signed up, and at the last minute my brother did too, who is young and it's good for him to get to know such beautiful places on our island.
The departure was at four in the morning, a fairly long 4-and-a-half-hour trip from my province, Ciego de Ávila, but it doesn't matter: the desire to enjoy the day was at its maximum.
Esta excursión llevaba meses con ganas de visitarla, más aún porque me gustan este tipo de viajes y relajarme del ambiente rutinario del hogar y el trabajo.
La invitación llegó gracias a unas amistades que llevaban días anotados en la capacidad del vehículo, pero aún disponían de 8 plazas, así que me anoté, y a última hora también mi hermano, que es joven y es bueno que conozca lugares tan bonitos de nuestra isla.
La salida fue a las cuatro de la madrugada, un viaje de 4 horas y media bastante largo desde mi provincia, Ciego de Ávila, pero no importa: las ganas de disfrutar el día estaban al máximo.
El Nicho is located in Cienfuegos, 60 km from the city, or crossing the Guamuhaya Massif, 30 km from the center of Topes de Collantes, another beautiful natural park, and 2 km near the Hanabanilla lake.
When we got off the bus, the guide, a young guy, explained everything related to the payment of the entrance fee, prohibited areas, lunch and breakfast areas, waterfalls, natural pools, and the return time, which was around four in the afternoon.
Upon going up to the ranchón we paid 280 Cuban pesos, and that meant we already had the right to enjoy all the wonderful places in the park.
El Nicho está localizado en Cienfuegos, a 60 km de la ciudad, o atravesando el Macizo Guamuhaya, a 30 km del centro de Topes de Collantes, otro parque natural bellísimo, y a 2 km cerca del lago Hanabanilla.
Al bajarnos del autobús, el guía, un muchacho joven, nos explicó todo lo relacionado con el pago de la entrada, lugares prohibidos, zonas de almuerzo, desayuno, cascadas, pocetas y el horario de regreso, que era sobre las cuatro de la tarde.
Al subir al ranchón pagamos 280 pesos cubanos, y eso quería decir que ya teníamos derecho a disfrutar de todos los lugares maravillosos del parque.
Very close by was the first local restaurant, quite beautiful, decorated with flags from many countries around the world that visit the natural park and enjoy delicious country-style dishes.
Like everyone on the bus, we had had breakfast at kilometer 272 of the national highway at the Servi before heading into Cienfuegos, since there was nothing left to do but go out and see the natural views that El Nicho offers, a place with many mountainous areas and uneven stretches.
Muy cerca se ubicaba el primer restaurante local, bastante bonito, decorado con banderas de muchos países del mundo que visitan el parque natural y disfrutan de deliciosos platillos campestres.
Como todos en la guagua, habíamos desayunado en el km 272 de la autopista nacional en el Servi antes de adentrarnos a Cienfuegos, pues no quedaba más que salir a ver las vistas naturales que ofrece El Nicho, un lugar de muchas zonas montañosas con tramos irregulares.
The walk around the park takes approximately 40 minutes. I suggest you go with a guide, since they can point out the incredible flora and fauna, with endemic trees and endangered animals, in addition to the abundance of our national bird, the 'Tocororo'. Although it is not suitable for people with mobility problems, it is an easy and very pleasant walk.
The center is completely clean, organized, and well cared for in terms of nature in general; there were rustic baskets in the surroundings to throw away the trash consumed by visitors.
La caminata alrededor del parque toma aproximadamente 40 minutos. Les sugiero que vayan con un guía, ya que pueden señalar la increíble flora y fauna, con árboles endémicos y animales en peligro de extinción, además de que abunda nuestra ave nacional, 'El Tocororo'. Aunque no es adecuado para aquellas personas con problemas de movilidad, es un paseo fácil y muy agradable.
El centro está en total limpieza, organización y cuidado de la naturaleza en general; había en los alrededores cestos rústicos para echar la basura consumida por los visitantes.
On the first walk, in the middle of the trail, the main restaurant is located, where the best food in the Escambray area is made; it's called 'Los Helechos'.
To be honest, I loved its view, its natural decoration, as well as the statue of the Indian that brings good luck haha to the traveler with its signs. It's a restaurant that operates by reservation from early on, a paradise-like place where the green of the vegetation blends together.
En el primer paseo, en medio del sendero, está ubicado el restaurante principal, donde se elabora la mejor comida de la zona Escambray; se llama 'Los Helechos'.
A mí, la verdad, me encantó su vista, su decoración natural, además de la estatua del Indio que da buena suerte jjj al viajero con sus señales. Es un restaurante que funciona por reservación desde temprano, un lugar paradisíaco donde se combina el verde de la vegetación.
Well, and as I mentioned to you, the photo with the Indian couldn't be missed, to bring good luck and emotional stability.
Another detail is that my brother took several photos of me and then we left and left my sunglasses behind, haha. Luckily I came with a cap and was able to keep enjoying the excursion to the fullest.
Bueno, y como les mencioné, no podía faltar la foto con el Indio, para dar buena suerte y estabilidad emocional.
Otro detalle es que mi hermano me tiró varias fotos y luego nos fuimos y dejamos mis gafas de sol botadas, jaja. Por suerte vine con gorra y pude seguir disfrutando al máximo de la excursión.
The restaurant was currently closed due to the low international tourism, and since it's a fairly large place, only other areas had been opened for the staff's lunch.
As it's no secret to anyone, Cuba is currently in a critical situation, but the beauties of our country cannot be overlooked. The place is very beautiful and allows you to feel the imposing nature of the Escambray Mountains; a natural appetizer at this center is well worth it.
El restaurante estaba actualmente cerrado por el poco turismo internacional, y como es un local bastante extenso, pues solo habían abierto otros lugares para el almuerzo del personal.
Como para nadie es un secreto, Cuba está actualmente en una situación crítica, pero no se puede obviar las bellezas de nuestro país. El sitio es muy bonito y permite palpar la naturaleza imponente de la Sierra del Escambray; merece la pena un aperitivo a lo natural en este centro.
The Snack Bar was also closed; as you can see, everything is well preserved, decorated, and natural.
There we can also find changing rooms, a very necessary process to find comfort when swimming in the river.
El Snack Bar también estaba cerrado; como pueden ver, está todo conservado, ornamentado y natural.
Allí podemos encontrar, además, casillas para cambio de ropa, un proceso muy necesario para hallar comodidad en los baños de río.
Something that really caught my attention are the artistic sculptures or statues in large formats, with a very professional level of detail.
The frogs, the snail, and the mushrooms were very beautiful; there were many more, but of my favorites, these four were quite realistic.
El Nicho can showcase the richness of its biodiversity and show the world its beauty without the worry that its environment might deteriorate. To that end, the environmental legislation that protects Cuba's natural resources is in force.
Algo que me llamo mucho la atención, son las esculturas o estatuas artísticas en formatos grandes, con un nivel de detalles muy profesional.
Las ranas, el caracol y los hongos muy bonitos, habían muchos más pero de mis favoritos estos cuatro, bastante realistas.
El Nicho puede rescatar la riqueza de su biodiversidad, y mostrar al mundo su belleza sin la preocupación de que su entorno pueda deteriorarse. Para ello está vigente la legislación medioambiental que protege los recursos naturales de Cuba.
Leaving the Los Helechos restaurant, we asked some tourists to take a souvenir photo of my brother and me in such a beautiful place. I would have loved to enjoy a variety of dishes with recipes from national cuisine prepared with pork, jutía, chicken, fish, and beef, in addition to the traditional ajiaco and refreshing drinks.
Saliendo del restaurante Los Helechos, le pedimos a unos turistas que nos tomaran una foto de recuerdo con mi hermano en tan bello lugar, me hubiese gustado mucho disfrutar de variados platos con recetas de la cocina nacional preparados a base de cerdo, jutia, pollo, pescado y res, además del tradicional ajiaco y bebidas refrescantes.
To conclude this first part of the tour through the park, I'll tell you that you haven't seen anything yet. Wait for the coming days and you'll get to know the Lovers' Pool, the Crystal Pool, and the Desparramaderos waterfall, one of the largest and most beautiful I have ever seen.
El Nicho, surrounded by mountains, crystal-clear waterfalls, and natural pools, is one of the most impressive natural treasures in Cuba.
Para concluir esta primera parte del recorrido por el parque, les comentaré que aún no han visto nada. Esperen los próximos días y conocerán la Poceta de los Enamorados, la de Cristal y la cascada de los Desparramaderos, una de las más grandes y bellas que he visto.
El Nicho, rodeado de montañas, cascadas cristalinas y piscinas naturales, es uno de los tesoros naturales más impresionantes de Cuba.
