Este reconocimiento se debe, a que Ciego de Ávila a sido seleccionada como sede del 26 de julio debido a avances en la agricultura, obras sociales, recuperación económica y otros indicadores.

Starting the Tour I’ll begin by saying that despite the country’s economic situation, my town is filled with a sense of joy and excitement.

The entire province of Ciego de Ávila is buzzing with enthusiasm as it prepares to host the national celebration of "Día de la Rebeldía Nacional" (Day of National Rebellion) the iconic July 26th.

But… What is July 26th in Cuba? 🇨🇺

July 26th is one of the most important dates in Cuba’s history. It commemorates the 1953 attack on the Moncada Barracks, a pivotal event that sparked the Cuban Revolution.

On that day, a group of revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro launched an armed assault on the Moncada Barracks (in Santiago de Cuba) and the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks (in Bayamo). Though the attack failed militarily, it became a symbol of resistance against the Batista dictatorship. This bold act marked the beginning of the revolutionary movement, which ultimately triumphed on January 1, 1959.

El 26 de julio es una de las fechas más importantes en la historia de Cuba. Conmemora el Asalto al Cuartel Moncada, ocurrido el 26 de julio de 1953, cuando un grupo de revolucionarios liderados por Fidel Castro intentó tomar los cuarteles Moncada (en Santiago de Cuba) y Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (en Bayamo), dando inicio al proceso revolucionario que culminaría con el triunfo de la Revolución Cubana en 1959.

Every year, Cuba’s Main Ceremony for July 26th takes place in a different province, chosen for its outstanding economic, social, and political achievements. In 2025, my city—Ciego de Ávila—has earned this honor.

As the host city, it will welcome the celebration with hundreds of completed projects, including new establishments and renovated spaces, all designed to enhance both functionality and aesthetics.

Cada año para la fecha, el Acto Central del 26 de Julio se realiza en una provincia diferente del país, seleccionada por sus resultados económicos, sociales y políticos, este 2025 mi ciudad Ciego de Ávila, gana ese mérito.

La ciudad central en su carácter de sede del acto, recibirá la conmemoración con cientos de obras terminadas, se trata de nuevos locales y otros tantos remodelados para mejorar su funcionalidad y estética.

This section of the boulevard is where I work every day, selling my art, plants, and handmade crafts. The store is called "La Elegante", offering a variety of items—from toiletries and plants to clothing, artwork, and household goods.

As you can see, the area has gotten a fresh new look to welcome visitors, now decorated with banners celebrating the July 26th festivities and showcasing different towns across the province. I’m truly thrilled with the beautification efforts carried out by the team of workers—it’s made all the difference!

Esta parte del boulevar, es donde yo trabajo y estoy día por día vendiendo mi arte, plantas y manualidades. Se llama tienda "La Elegante" donde se ofrecen varios artículos de aseos, plantas, arte, ropa entre muchos utensilios.

Como pueden observar está teniendo una mejor vista al visitante, adornado con pancartas de la fecha y de varios municipios de la provincia central, la verdad súper contento con las labores de embellecerlo por parte del colectivo de trabajadores.

Continuing the tour along the revitalized city center façade, we find the newly restored children’s park a bright, reimagined space where little ones can enjoy summer fun, playful attractions, and picture-perfect moments.

Siguiendo el recorrido, por la fachada y restauración del centro de ciudad, encontramos el parque para niños con una mejor vista para los más pequeños que puedan disfrutar de fotos y atracciones infantiles en este verano.

Another iconic landmark is this place, known as Hotel Rueda 1920 a treasured establishment offering one of the most diverse atmospheres and experiences for visitors. Whether you’re here to unwind, savor exquisite dishes at the restaurant, enjoy impeccable service, or simply receive attentive care from the staff, every moment feels special.

Otra de las arquitecturas más emblemáticas, es este lugar conocido como el Hotel Rueda 1920, se conserva como uno de los sitios con mayor variedad de ambientes y opciones para el visitante, ya sea para descansar, disfrutar de comidas exquisitas del restaurante, recibir un buen servicio o una atención esmerada por parte de todo el personal.

Nearly 365 projects have been completed, with hundreds more in various stages of progress. The July 26th celebration won't just leave behind memories of revolutionary reaffirmation by Avilanian people - it will bequeath a spirit of determination proving that 'Yes We Can,' serving as both a motto and life philosophy.

The Credit and Commerce banks were also repainted and decorated as part of the restoration efforts. These buildings maintain their well-preserved colonial facades, standing as architectural treasures.

The colonial buildings glow with fresh coats of vibrant paint, the streets buzz with newfound energy, and every corner displays flags, posters, and murals honoring the 1953 revolutionary struggle.

There’s a palpable excitement in the air—as if the city has been touched by magic.

The main ceremony will take place at the Teatro Principal - known as the Avilanian Coliseum - which is returning to life after 98 years of existence. On July 25th, its timeworn doors will reopen for the political-cultural gala preceding National Rebellion Day.

As you can see, final restoration work is underway on this Grade 1 protected building, constructed in 1927 and designated as a local monument.

Not to be outdone, the city's most famous building - 'Los 12 Plantas' (The 12 Floors) as we locals call it - stands proudly in the center of Avilanian life at Parque Martí. Dressed in its grandest display with two giant flags, it proclaims our July 26th spirit and proves that yes, we can build a more beautiful, cleaner, and revitalized city.

No se queda detrás, el edificio más famoso de la ciudad (Los 12 plantas) como lo conocemos los nacidos aquí. Está situado en el centro, en el mismo Parque Martí de la ciudad avileña, demostrando a lo grande con las dos banderas que estamos en 26 y que si podemos tener una ciudad más linda, limpia y embellecida.

Here in Ciego de Ávila, we can still admire outstanding examples of Modernist architecture inspired by Rationalism - and the city's main church is also part of this celebratory transformation.
