Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to discover and walk through the most attractive park in my city, Ciego de Ávila. You will discover its urban styles, landscapes, boardwalk, and the natural atmosphere of the place. In addition, I will share several photos of the floods caused by the spring rains, considered among the most extensive of the year.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a conocer y caminar el parque más atractivo de mi ciudad Ciego de Ávila, descubrirán sus estilos urbanísticos, paisajes, malecón y ambiente natural del lugar. Además, les compartiré varias fotografías de las inundaciones provocadas por las lluvias de primavera, consideradas entre las más extensas del año.

This journey came about during @karoly's daughter's birthday. She wanted to ride some of the rides that are rented out in the park for the little ones and capture nice photos of her dress.
To get to the city park "La Turbina" from my home, it's approximately 2 km of streets and old hallways, located on the northern outskirts of the Avileña capital. This space has managed to become a place of recreation for the whole family.
Esta travesía surgió durante el cumpleaños de la niña de @karoly. Ella quería montar algunos de los aparatos que alquilan en el parque para los más pequeños y captar fotografías bonitas de su vestido.
Para llegar al parque de la ciudad "La Turbina" desde mi hogar son aproximadamente 2 km de calles y portales antiguos, situado en la periferia norte de la capital avileña, este espacio a logrado convertirse en lugar de esparcimiento para toda la familia.
La Turbina, to give you a bit of history, used to be an abandoned place, where people only fished in the lake that lies within it. This wasteland full of thickets has been transformed into a pleasant reflection of the pride of Ciego de Ávila.
Around the park's artificial lake, paths have been marked out, ranch-style restaurants have been built, thematic sculptures have been created, and two old steam trains have been dusted off in memory of the city's transportation history. Additionally, it has boat rides, areas for children's games, and spaces for sports.
La Turbina, para hablarles un poco de historia era un lugar abandonado, donde solo se pescaba en el lago que abarca. Este descampado lleno de matorrales se ha transformado en un agradable reflejo del orgullo de Ciego de Ávila.
Alrededor del lago artificial del parque se han señalizado caminos, construido restaurantes tipo ranchón, creado esculturas temáticas y desempolvado dos viejos trenes de vapor en recuerdo de la historia del transporte de la ciudad. Además, cuenta con paseos en bote, zonas para juegos infantiles y prácticas de deporte.
From the entrance, the fresh air and the greenery of the trees and palm trees invite you to walk without hurry. The built boardwalk that borders the lake's waters offers charming views, with blue paths that snake through the tropical vegetation.
In this little spot, many children come to play with their parents, do yoga exercises, and even fly kites thanks to the good wind it offers.
Desde la entrada, el aire fresco y el verde de los árboles y palmas invitan a caminar sin prisa. El malecón creado, que bordea las aguas del lago, ofrece vistas encantadoras, con senderos azules que serpentean entre la vegetación tropical.
En este pedacito, vienen muchos niños a jugar con sus padres, realizar ejercicios de Yoga y hasta empinar papalotes por el buen viento que ofrece.
Another important fact is that the name "La Turbina" comes from an old turbine (a motor machine) that once existed on the site, linked to the sugar industry history of the region, which is the economic heart of the entire province.
At first glance, this public space seems calm, but the rising water and rains in recent days have been the talk of the entire Avileña population, somewhat alarming for nearby homes.
Otro dato importante es que el nombre 'La Turbina' proviene de una antigua turbina (una máquina motora) que existió en el lugar, vinculada a la historia azucarera de la región, que es el corazón económico de toda la provincia.
A simple vista parece estar tranquilo el espacio público pero el aumento del agua y lluvias los últimos días a dado de que hablar en toda la población Avileña, un poco alarmante para los hogares cercanos.
As you can see in the images, the rise in water levels has affected areas near the lagoon and outdoor recreation areas. Several sections of the park are flooded, making access difficult for visitors and temporarily limiting the development of recreational activities or simply conversations on the boardwalk.
This simple pathway, with its main park street, features tall palm trees and tropical vegetation that frame much of the landscape, creating a natural and warm atmosphere.
Según pueden apreciar en las imágenes, el crecimiento del nivel del agua ha afectado zonas cercanas a la laguna y áreas de recreación al aire libre. Varias secciones del parque presentan anegamientos que dificultan el acceso de visitantes y limitan temporalmente el desarrollo de actividades recreativas o simplemente conversaciones en el malecón.
Esta vía sencilla con su calle principal del parque, contiene altas palmeras y vegetación tropical que enmarca gran parte del paisaje, creando un ambiente natural y cálido.
The persistent rains have generated a significant accumulation of water around the complex, causing trails, green areas, and spaces designated for rest to remain partially flooded.
Structures and furniture located near the riverbank are also observed to be at risk due to the increased water flow.
Las lluvias persistentes han generado una acumulación significativa de agua en los alrededores del complejo, ocasionando que senderos, áreas verdes y espacios destinados al descanso permanezcan parcialmente inundados.
También se observan estructuras y mobiliario ubicados cerca de la ribera bajo condiciones de riesgo debido al incremento del caudal.
Before continuing, we took a break to eat something at an outdoor bar. The place was nicely decorated, with buoys and life rings, which gave it a cozy atmosphere.
On the menu, they offered some typical specialties of the area: fried fish, fish fritters, breaded fish fillet, and cold soft drinks.
Antes de continuar, hicimos una pausa para comer algo en un bar al aire libre. El lugar estaba decorado bonito, con boyas y salvavidas, lo que le daba un ambiente acogedor.
En la carta, ofrecían algunas especialidades típicas de la zona: pescado frito, calenticos o fritas de pescado, minuta y refresco frío.
Authorities recommend that the public avoid accessing flooded areas while the rains persist and stay informed through official channels about the evolution of the weather situation.
However, some people take advantage of the moment and the occasion to go fishing. According to the fishermen, these are good days for catching fish, as the stirred-up waters make fishing easier.
Las autoridades recomiendan a la población evitar el acceso a las áreas inundadas mientras persistan las lluvias y mantenerse informada a través de los canales oficiales sobre la evolución de la situación meteorológica.
Sin embargo, algunas personas aprovechan el momento y la ocasión para salir de pescar. Según los pescadores, estos son días buenos para capturar peces, ya que las aguas revueltas facilitan la pesca.
Although the floods have partially impacted the park's operations, once the rainfall subsides and safety conditions are restored, recovery and cleanup efforts are expected to begin in order to return normalcy to one of the city's most emblematic recreational spaces.
Despite the conditions, it was a wonderful day in the company of my partner and a different routine from normal everyday life.
Aunque las inundaciones han impactado parcialmente el funcionamiento del parque, se espera que, una vez disminuyan las precipitaciones y se restablezcan las condiciones de seguridad, puedan iniciarse las labores de recuperación y limpieza para devolver la normalidad a uno de los espacios recreativos más emblemáticos de la ciudad.
A pesar de las condiciones fue un día maravilloso en compañía de mi pareja y una rutina diferente a lo normal del día a día.
