Yesterday I arrived to France. I'm first time in this country. Nice is my first French city on the way. It's almost the middle of my journey - 35th day of 71 planned. And I already cycled almost the half of the distance (as I thought on that moment).

Damien, my host from Warmshowers, agreed that I stay one day longer. So, I left my pannier bags and decided to take a walk in the centre of Nice.

The castle mountain offers excellent views of the entire city. Despite the name, there is no castle here.

I had the prejudice that Nice is a resort town with a rich public, as in Monaco. But, it turns out, this is just a big metropolis, where there is a place for beaches, bike paths, beautiful old architecture, an old Jewish cemetery, and quite ordinary city residents. Pedestrian streets and parks are comfortable here.

A large underground river, Paillon, flows to the sea. Of course, I went to explore it, leaving the bike locked near the beach. It is fortunate that no one stole it.

Nice has a Roman amphitheater. There are many of them on the Mediterranean coast.

Bought some food for tomorrow - in the morning I'll continue my cycling. The prices in supermarkets are little bit more expensive than Italian. But they offer you cheap cheese of different sorts. When I saw a sign "Casino", I thought it's real casino, where people spend there money playing. But then I realized it's the name of local supermarket chain :).

For the sunset, I went to the beach.

After dark, went back to Damien's house. Traffic here, in France, is chaotic. Cyclists disobey any rules - even if there is a sign "no cycling", on the tram lane, for example, there's always somebody going on his 2 wheels :).
