In The Netherlands, I've started to see a few of these little places with a wide selection of food under the same roof. It's strange, not quite a food hall, but following a similar sort of idea.

Anyway, this was a place that I had noticed that had recently been completed near the Centraal station in Den Haag and I've been looking out for a chance to try it out. So, one day, I went for a ride to Centraal with my girls and we dropped in for a quick lunch before heading off to a music lesson.

The Space

The area is a large and open with many seating opportunities inside and outside, with the "stalls" lined around the ouside and in the centre. There are various styles of seating from the high bar chairs to the the normal seats and then more longue like areas.

It's probably going to be my only Tasteem review where I have to include a ground floor map... There is also a small area for a kid's playground inside!

They seem to have gone with a mix of the "local grass roots" style for the stalls that is constrasted with the "industrial" look of the rest of the building. It's a bit strange, but I'm sure it made sense to the people designing it....

The Menu

This is a list of the different types of food available for selection. Some stalls are specific nationalities, some are a certain type (comfort food) and others are just for juice or drinks.

Seeing as there is such a wide variety of selections, I'm just going to post the complete menu without too much written dialogue in between....

This is a general overview of the menu that is at the tables. There are more specific menus at each kitchen station.

Following is a list of the drinks menus, which include hot drinks (teas/coffees), freshly made juices and wines/beers and cocktails.

The Food

We were just here for a quick lunch, so I didn't have a lot of time to try out some of things that I had wanted to try. However, the thought of a nice Thai chicken noodle soup did catch my eye. It was jam packed with little extras, and it was the perfect lunch time meal! The soup was great, and the serving size was just right after a long bike ride.

My kids, however, went for a hot dog and chips... also fine for a quick lunch... although, perhaps not so healthy! As with any lunch, there were leftovers, and I can attest that the kids meals were actually quite good as well.

The Experience

The biggest benefit of a place like this with many small kitchens and a wide variety of food types is that everyone can just decide on what they want for themselves.

The quality of the food (from the little bit that I had tried) was quite decent and the serving time is quite quick. I would say that this is perfect restaurant for families, or the person that needs a quick and inexpensive feed as they are coming or going from the Centraal station.

Apparently, in the evenings there is also a live music scene as well (and there seem to be photos of a ice skating rink in the winter...). I assume at some point in the evening, the venue transitions from a restaurant-like space to more like a night-club like space...

In contrast to my last Tasteem review, this is the complete opposite. They DON'T take cash... cards only!

The only thing that I didn't like so much was that some of the decor was a bit on the painfully hipster side of things...
