On our trip to Belgium... we were pretty obsessed with chocolate, having visited a chocolate museum or two! Anyway, one thing that we really enjoyed about the chocolate museums (and the associated restaurants) were the chocolate fondues! What better way to eat fruit than to dunk it completely in chocolate?
So, searching around on Google... led us to this suggestion, a chocolate fondue place called Quetzal. What could be better for an afternoon treat for the girls?
The Space
Well... the seating area is a bit white and plasticy.... it's the sort of place the reminds you of a fast food place. Easy to clean, but not so comfortable for the ambience... Also, the lighting was quite bright and harsh... but I have to remember, this more like a chocolate snack bar rather than a restaurant! At least there were toys for the kiddies to play with!
Heh heh... choose your poison! There was a nice selection of various chooclate types, ranging from white through to the darkest of dark!
The Menu
Everything here it chocolate or chocolate themed.... with the only expections being the drinks (coffee/tea or bottled stuff...). If you came to a chocolate place expecting a savoury meal... well, you really came to the wrong place!
So, milkshakes and coffees... plus a chocolate fondue it is!
The Food
Well... it is a little bit underwhelming after the really nice ones that we got at the chocolate museums! Just a small platter of fruit and biscuits and a small pot of a single chocolate type. Frankly, I would have expected much more... the fruit was also not that great either, having been cut a while ago and left sitting around....
However, these are only complaints from an adult... when you are a kid... you see stuff to dip in choocolate and it is the best thing in the world!
Coffee was pretty disappointing, but the milkshake was decent. Well, at least the kiddies wolfed it down... but I have to question whether or not they have decent taste!
Surprisingly enough, the little brownies that accompanied the coffees were the highlight (from my point of view) of the sweet afternoon snacks... actually, they were quite decent!
The Experience
To be perfectly honest, it is a pretty dissapointing place. You will get much better presented and quality chocolate fondues elsewhere, so I would say don't waste your time with this place... however, it is relatively cheap and kids aren't too fussy when it comes to chocolate and stuff to dip in it!
This is a time when I wished Tasteem actually had a way to give a bad review... 1 crown (A place I would visit daily?) is not supposed to be a good thing...
