Stepping on the northernmost point of Venezuela: Cape San Román / Pisando el punto más al norte de Venezuela: Cabo San Román

When you look at the map of Venezuela, in the upper left corner there is a piece of land in the shape of a head, that is the Paraguaná Peninsula (Falcón state), where the site I will show you in this post is located, Cape San Román, which is the northernmost point of the continental territory of the country.

Cuando ves el mapa de Venezuela, en la parte superior izquierda sobresale un pedazo de tierra como con forma de cabeza, esa es la Península de Paraguaná (estado Falcón), donde se encuentra el sitio que les mostraré en esta publicación, el Cabo San Román, que es el punto más septentrional del territorio continental del país, o sea es el que está más al norte.

We arrived after 6:00 pm after visiting the Cumaraguas Salt Flats, although it was a cloudy afternoon, the sky cleared up a bit while we were there.

Llegamos después de las 6:00 de la tarde tras visitar las Salinas de Las Cumaraguas, aunque nos tocó una tarde nublada, el cielo se despejó un poco mientras estuvimos allí.

The group's bus left us at some distance because the road is dirt and at a certain point it gets rocky, so not any vehicle can travel there.

El autobús del grupo nos dejó a cierta distancia ya que la vía es de tierra y en cierto punto se pone rocosa, así que no cualquier vehículo puede transitar por ahí.

I had visited this place for the first time several years ago, I was pleased to see that they had improved the structure of the lighthouse, which is one of the things that stands out in this landscape. The building was renovated with a stone cladding and the installation of a lamp with a range of 25 miles or 40 kilometers, which serves as a guide for boats passing through this area.

Yo había visitado este lugar por primera vez hace varios años, me gustó ver que habían mejorado la estructura del faro, que es una de las cosas que más destaca en este paisaje. La edificación fue renovada con un revestimiento de piedras y la instalación de una lámpara con alcance de 25 millas ó 40 kilómetros, que sirve de guía a las embarcaciones que pasan por esta zona.

When you arrive near the lighthouse the Caribbean Sea appears in all its splendor, if the weather is good you can see the islands of Aruba and Curaçao in the distance.

Cuando llegas cerca del faro aparece el mar Caribe en todo su esplendor, si hay buen tiempo puedes ver a lo lejos las islas de Aruba y Curaçao.

On one side, closer to the sea, there is a cross on a concrete base, which was placed on the 500th anniversary of the landing of the Spanish colonizers in these lands. According to historical records, on August 9, 1499, Alonso de Ojeda, Juan de la Cosa and Américo Vespucio arrived here. As it was the day of San Román, they named this cape after him and the Paraguaná peninsula was also called this way for a while.

A un costado, más cerca del mar, hay una cruz sobre una base de concreto, la cual se colocó cuando se cumplieron 500 años del desembarco de los colonizadores españoles a estas tierras. Según registros históricos, el 9 de agosto de 1499 llegaron aquí Alonso de Ojeda, Juan de la Cosa y Américo Vespucio, como era el día de San Román, le pusieron ese nombre a este cabo y también la península de Paraguaná se llamó así por un tiempo.

We wanted to go up to the lighthouse but there was no one there at that time, the door was closed, so we just took some pictures and tousled our hair in the intense breeze hehe.

Queríamos subir al faro pero no había nadie allí a esa hora, la puerta estaba cerrada, así que solamente nos dedicamos a tomarle algunas fotos y a despeinarnos con la intensa brisa que había jeje.

Another thing that stands out here is the ground, it looks like rock but is actually coral formation. A beautiful grasshopper or Cheveve as they call it around here, landed there and embellished this shot:

Otra cosa que destaca aquí es el suelo, parece roca pero en realidad es de formación coralina. Un hermoso saltamontes o Cheveve como le dicen por aquí, se posó allí y embelleció esta toma:

If you walk a little further, you reach the White Sand Dune, a beautiful mountain that falls into the sea. I visited it the first time I was here but this time we didn't go because it was already 7:00 at night.

Si se camina un poco más allá, se llega al Médano Blanco, bellísima duna que cae al mar. Yo la conocí la primera vez que estuve acá pero esta vez no fuimos porque ya iban a ser las 7:00 de la noche.

I love visiting remote places like this because there is almost no one around and you have space to better enjoy the scenery.

Me encanta visitar lugares remotos como éste porque no hay casi nadie y tienes espacio para disfrutar mejor del paisaje.
