[Eng-Esp] El Encantado waterfall and its surroundings, a hidden beauty in Miranda - Venezuela / Cascada El Encantado y sus alrededores, una belleza escondida en Miranda - Venezuela

It was the first time that I went out on a route with the Caracas Excursionist Center (CEC) and the place we were going was also unknown to me, I had never heard it, but that didn't matter because what had me excited in first place was to have found a group to hike.

Era la primera vez que salía a una ruta con el Centro Excursionista Caracas (CEC) y el lugar al que íbamos era también desconocido para mí, jamás lo había escuchado, pero eso no importaba porque lo que me tenía emocionada en primer lugar era haber conseguido un grupo para hacer senderismo.

I received the program for the month after having contacted them by email and an excursion to a site called El Encantado (The Enchanted) waterfall caught my attention, so I wrote to sign up for that route and transfer the money to pay for transportation.

Recibí la programación del mes después de haberlos contactado por correo electrónico y me llamó la atención una excursión a un sitio llamado Cascada El Encantado, así que les escribí para anotarme en esa ruta y transferir el dinero para el pago del transporte.

The meeting point that Sunday was Altamira Square in Caracas at 7:00 in the morning, there we got on some Toyota jeeps long chassis hired by the CEC to take us to the beginning of the route, which is in a mountainous area on the road to Guarenas, half an hour from Caracas.

El punto de encuentro aquel domingo fue la Plaza Altamira de Caracas a las 7:00 de la mañana, allí nos montamos en unos jeeps Toyota chasis largos contratados por el CEC para llevarnos hasta el inicio de la ruta, que queda en una zona montañosa por la vía a Guarenas, a una media hora de Caracas.

When we got there, the jeeps headed to a dirt road where the Lima family's house is located, in Las Culebrillas sector of the Waraira Repano National Park, we got off and started the walk with the guide of Mr. Lima, an inhabitant of the area.

Al llegar allí los jeeps se metieron por un camino de tierra donde se encuentra el rancho de la familia Lima, en el sector Las Culebrillas del Parque Nacional Waraira Repano, nos bajamos y comenzamos la caminata con la guiatura del señor Lima, habitante de la zona.

From the beginning we entered the thick vegetation, the freshness of the greenery made the walk very pleasant although we were going uphill.

Desde el principio nos adentramos entre la espesa vegetación, la frescura del verdor hizo la caminata muy agradable aunque íbamos en subida.

This area, our guide told us, is very seldom visited, hardly frequented by his family, any local resident and the occasional hiker group. You could tell because the path was dense, in many sections he cleared it with a machete so that we could pass more easily.

Esta zona, nos contaba nuestro guía, es muy poco visitada, apenas la frecuentan su familia, algún poblador de por ahí y uno que otro grupo excursionista. Eso se notaba porque el sendero estaba tupido, en muchos tramos él despejó el camino con un machete para que pudiéramos pasar más fácilmente.

I saw that one of the teammates had put some cereal cartons around his ankles, I couldn't imagine why, and when I asked him he said: "to protect me from snake bites", really? I didn't know that technique hehehe, from that moment I was attentive to where I stepped.

Vi que uno de los compañeros del grupo se había puesto unos cartones de cereal alrededor de los tobillos, no imaginaba por qué y cuando le pregunté me dijo: “para protegerme de picadas de serpientes”, ¿qué tal? Yo no conocía esa técnica jejeje, a partir de ese momento estuve atenta de dónde pisaba.

About 40 minutes after starting the route we heard the water running, we were close to El Encantado waterfall.

Unos 40 minutos después de haber empezado la ruta escuchamos el agua correr, ya estábamos cerca de la Cascada El Encantado.

We walked a little further and saw the great stone wall where a thin stream of water ran down.

Caminamos un poco más y vimos la gran pared de piedra por donde bajaba un delgado chorro de agua.

Although the weather was partly cloudy and being among a lot of vegetation the sun was barely creeping in, many people in the group were encouraged to bathe in the cold waters of El Encantado waterfall, I only got my feet and face wet hahaha, but I still enjoyed it

Aunque el clima estaba medio nublado y estando entre mucha vegetación apenas se colaba el sol, muchas personas del grupo se animaron a bañarse en las frías aguas de la Cascada El Encantado, yo solamente me mojé los pies y la cara jajaja, pero igual lo disfruté.

We were there for more than an hour, we took the opportunity to eat what each one had brought and to talk.

Allí estuvimos más de una hora, aprovechamos para comer lo que cada quien había llevado y para conversar.

Then we went back into the forest to continue the excursion, the lush and pure nature that is in this place enchanted me, the smell of the earth and the flora is something that always energizes me.

Luego volvimos a internarnos por el bosque para continuar con la excursión, la frondosa y pura naturaleza que hay en este lugar me encantó, el olor de la tierra y la flora es algo que siempre me energiza.

After noon we arrive at the next point on the route, Casa del Canalero, it is a hut made with clay, wood and zinc that serves as a stop, here you can cook with wood on a stove or stay camping if you go to routes farther up the mountain like Naiguatá peak. We stay a while here to rest and then we continue.

Después del mediodía llegamos al siguiente punto de la ruta, la Casa del Canalero, se trata de una choza hecha con barro, madera y zinc que sirve de parada, aquí se puede cocinar a leña en un fogón o quedarse acampando si se va hacia rutas más lejanas en la montaña como el Pico Naiguatá. Nosotros nos quedamos un rato aquí para descansar y luego continuamos.

Again we immersed ourselves in the greenery for the last part of the excursion that would take us to the Santa Rosa hamlet and then to the Metropolitan University (UNIMET).

Nuevamente nos sumergimos en el verdor para la última parte de la excursión que nos llevaría hasta el Caserío Santa Rosa y luego hasta la Universidad Metropolitana (UNIMET).

There was a point when the mountain was already less dense in terms of tall vegetation and allowed us to see some parts of the city of Caracas in the distance.

Hubo un punto en que ya la montaña estaba menos densa en cuanto a vegetación alta y nos permitía ver a lo lejos algunas partes de la ciudad de Caracas.

Around here there are some settlers and we come across plantations of tamarillo or tree tomato and passion fruit, also with a cute donkey.

Por aquí hay algunos pobladores y nos encontramos con siembras de tomate de árbol y parchitas, también con un lindo burrito.

We continued the walk along a path that could hardly be seen because apparently no one had passed there for a long time, the vegetation was very high, so the captain of the excursion told us not to separate and be careful when stepping on, there could be some snake over there.

Continuamos la caminata por un sendero que casi no se veía porque al parecer hace tiempo nadie pasaba por allí, el monte estaba muy alto, por lo que el capitán de la excursión nos dijo que no nos separáramos y tuviéramos cuidado al pisar, podría haber alguna serpiente por ahí.

The city now appeared more frequently while we were advancing, yet it seemed incredible that among so much nature that surrounded us we were so close to all that concrete, it is the contrast that the Venezuelan capital has.

La ciudad aparecía ahora más frecuentemente mientras íbamos avanzando, aún así parecía increíble que entre tanta naturaleza que nos rodeaba estuviésemos tan cerca de todo ese concreto, es el contraste que posee la capital venezolana.

At approximately 5:30 in the afternoon we reached the end of the mountain that led us to an entrance to the Metropolitan University, we walked to the bus stop that took us to a metro station and from there each one to their house, all happy and energized by nature.

Aproximadamente a las 5:30 de la tarde llegamos al final de la montaña que nos condujo hacia una entrada de la Universidad Metropolitana, caminamos hasta la parada de autobús que nos llevó hacia una estación del metro y desde ahí cada quien a su casa, todos contentos y energizados por la naturaleza.
