This time I want to share an experience my family and I had on our trip to Cannes, a beautiful city on the French Riviera. We traveled by bus from Nice, where we are based, and really enjoyed every moment. In the previous blog I wrote about Nice, but now I want to focus on our visit to Cannes and all that enchanted us.
First Impressions: The Famous Red Carpet
When we arrived in Cannes, we were immediately greeted by the beauty of this city. The weather was perfect - sunny and warm, just right for exploring. First of all, we couldn't resist taking a picture on the famous red carpet, which is a symbol of this city. The red carpet is an unavoidable part of the world's film festivals, and of course, we couldn't miss the opportunity to take some photos like real "stars".
Beautiful beach and maternity photo
Afterwards, we decided to relax and enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in Cannes - a sandy beach that has always been famous for its golden sand and turquoise sea. There I took the opportunity to photograph my two sisters who were enjoying the view and enjoying the sea. They were delighted with the beauty of this place, and the pictures I took became a real souvenir from this trip.
Cannes Tour: Center and Old Town
After enjoying the beach, we went on a further tour of Cannes. The city is full of history, and we wanted to visit the city center as well as the old town. Cannes is really special, with narrow streets, colorful buildings and numerous shops that radiate French charm. The old town had a special charm - with all those stone streets, small shops, and cafes where we encountered friendly people everywhere.
In the heart of the French city of Cannes, among charming buildings with pastel-colored facades and green sheds, stands an elegant fountain with a monument to Lord Brougham. This monument is not only part of the city's architecture – it is a key symbol of the history of Cannes and its development into a world-famous resort.
Who was Lord Brougham?
Henry Peter Brougham, a 19th-century British statesman and lawyer, had a huge influence on the development of Cannes. According to legend, he accidentally discovered this small seaside town while fleeing a cholera epidemic in France in 1834. Enchanted by its beauty, he decided to build a villa there and promote Cannes as a destination for the British aristocracy. His love for this place transformed the fishing village into a luxury resort, known all over the world.
Details about the fountain and the monument
The fountain of Lord Brougham is located in the square of the same name, near the old town and the main roads. The monument dominates the space, depicting Lord Brougham in ceremonial robes, while the base is decorated with lions and an inscription in appreciation of his role in the city's history. Tourists often gather around the fountain, while gentle jets of water give an additional feeling of freshness and elegance to the space.
The old town of Cannes: Back in the past
Continuing our adventure in Cannes, we decided to head to one of the most beautiful and authentic parts of the city – the old town, known as Le Suquet. This part of Cannes is the right place for lovers of history and architecture, but also for all those who want to go back in time and feel the spirit of a real Mediterranean city.
Narrow streets and charming houses
Le Suquet is located on a hill, offering a beautiful view of the city and the sea. Through the narrow, stone-paved alleys, it seemed as if we had stepped into the past. The houses are colorful and charming, with balconies full of flowers, and facades with old-fashioned wooden windows created the impression that we are in a movie. The picturesque streets of this old part of the city are full of local galleries, souvenir shops and small cafes where you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Markets and local products
In the Old Town there are also several small markets where you can buy fresh local products. From fragrant spices, olive oil, to authentic French cheeses and wines, here you will find everything you need to take a piece of Cannes with you. We passed through those markets, admiring every detail and enjoying the relaxing atmosphere.
The tower and the view of the riviera
One of the most beautiful moments during the tour of the Old Town was the ascent to the Le Suquet tower that dominates the entire town. This tower, which dates back to the 12th century, offers an incredible panoramic view of Cannes, but also of the entire French Riviera. It was the perfect moment to relax and enjoy the beauty of the landscape, overlooking the luxury yachts in the harbor and the turquoise sea. From here you can also enjoy the view of numerous beautiful beaches that make this city one of the most beautiful in the world.
Church of Notre-Dame d'Esperance
Not far from the tower, there is also the church of Notre-Dame d'Esperance, one of the most beautiful buildings in Cannes. This 16th century church with its elegant style and peaceful courtyard provides the perfect contrast to the busy life on the Riviera. Inside, it is simple but extremely beautiful, with old wooden altars and paintings that reflect the rich history of the area. This church is a true example of French Gothic architecture.
Passing through history
Touring the old town, we felt that we were really in places that tell stories of past times. This part of the city is full of historical monuments and small squares, where you can often see people sitting, talking and enjoying the peace. The atmosphere of Le Suquet is calm, which is completely different from the lively center of Cannes, and offers a real escape from the crowds and stress.
Shopping in Cannes and a gift for a girlfriend
As we visited the shops, I couldn't resist, so I bought a beautiful skirt for my girlfriend in one of them. In Cannes, you can find numerous luxury stores, but also those with unique, local products. Shopping was a real experience, because everything was so elegant and stylishly designed, and I also found the perfect gift that delighted my girlfriend.
Family Lunch: Scallops and French Fries
After sightseeing and shopping, we decided to relax and enjoy a family lunch. We sat down at one of the restaurants in the center, where we enjoyed the specialties of this region. We ordered shrimp, clams, and of course, fries - which were really tasty. Everything was fresh and prepared with love, and the meal was the perfect way to end the day.
Conclusion: An Unforgettable Day in Cannes
The visit to Cannes was truly unforgettable. We enjoyed all the charms of this city, from the red carpet, beautiful beaches, historic old town, to excellent food and unforgettable shopping. Cannes is not only a film city, but also a place where you can experience true French luxury and charm. I spent a great day with my family, and we will definitely visit this city again.
