Quite a few thoughts actually. What’s with this crappy weather? I left the UK to get sun, sun and more sun but it seems the rain has followed me here.
After a thunderstruck night, we were presented with more rain today complete with cracking thunder. While I am quite a fan of thunderstorms, I am most definitely not when I’m expecting the bright yellow thing in the sky to be out.
The rain did stop later in the afternoon so we foolishly made our way around the rather long bay in the baking heat. While it had stopped, the local drainage system was really not up to clearing up this amount of water very well.
I spotted this water machine halfway across the bay, and thought it a little strange. I suppose its better than buying more bottled water, but if you don’t have your own bottle then it's cupped hands and much leakage.
If I have to comment on the state of what I see, it would be run down. The houses look somewhat Mediterranean but also they resemble something I would see in North Africa.
Look at this signpost, is this Maltese? I think so and there's some resemblance in there to Arabic.
There are a lot of Italian people here. I suppose its the closest European mainland country, with Sicily being very close.
You can’t escape McDonalds wherever you go. I didn’t see the infamous burger place but there’s one lurking around here somewhere.
We were in search of a supermarket or shop but there are few to be found! We did find this one, but dare we enter? There’s a store there, but trespassing is forbidden too.
After a fruitless THREE mile walk in hot sun, we arrived back at the hotel hot and sweaty. There’s a nice beach and a few restaurants but they were a good mile walk from our hotel.
I pity those who booked half-board. No lunch for them unless they want that sweaty midday walk everyday.
Just outside the hotel, @bingbabe noticed these bananas growing on this tree and several others. We didn’t pick any off, even though they looked really good.
There’s only one other place I have visited that has served ‘hot puddings’, a very british thing, and that was Kenya. Like the African country mentioned, Malta is an ex-commonwealth country and retains some of those old traditions.
I was very happy to see Cherry crumble with hot custard at the dining table this evening.
@bingbabe is now crashed out giving me a little time to write, and my teenage daughter @dismayedworld (forthcoming account) is being, well a teenager and behaving quite typically. Sometimes you just have to hold your tongue.
