One Sunday in December I went with my parents to visit the Manzoli castle in Minerbio, a little known place near Bologna, indeed we are in the province of Bologna.
In fact, this place I knew my dad because I had never heard of it unfortunately that day I still remember that we were unable to enter precisely because the castle opens few times a year.
However from the information I found on the net the castle as you can see from the photos of the medieval fortress with four crenellated towers and is surrounded by this beautiful moat and is accessed via a drawbridge.
The current Fortress was built in 1400 point of the Bolognese knight Bartolomeo Manzoli who gave it its name in that area there was already a pre-existing military construction which, however, was now in decline.
Fortunately, the castle was recovered as early as 1800 and through numerous restorations it has reached the present day still so intact and in perfect condition.
Like every castle also this one to its legend In fact it is said that on the first of December of every year the ghost of this knight appears at the gates of the castle because practically the Manzoli who had this fortress built was murdered in strange circumstances by one of his servants.
It is currently privately owned so the owner decides when to open it, in fact the openings are really rare and occur when there are events or shows such as historical re-enactments around the Castle.
From what I understand I have to go back when there is the town festival because in this way the castle is opened and I will have the opportunity to visit it internally also because I am really curious to see how it is done inside there are not many around yet so in very good condition.
Among other things, I think that for the owner it is really expensive to have a castle like this because it is not easy to manage.
I hope you found this article interesting and somehow virtually took you with me but I definitely intend to return to this place to visit the castle internally.
