Since childhood, Zoo is one of the most lovable place for me to visit. It is not only for kids to enjoy there, being a grown up man, I do prefer excursion to Zoo. I like to spend time with animals and seeing different species of animals. They are beautiful creatures.
I would like to share my experience and pictures from my first visit to Giza Zoo, located in Cairo, Egypt. It was 2.5 km away from my home, about 6 mins of drive, not so far. I and my parents planned a visit on Saturday, 8th of March 2008. The weather was good to have a nice walk through the park and the Zoo.
It looks to me somewhat same as of Karachi Zoo. The entry fee is low for locals whereas for non-Egyptians they charge 20 LE which is not so expensive. There was a big line in entrance and too much crowded. Entrance looks great.
It is spread a long way. Beautiful garden and sitting place in the middle, besides there was a birdy area.
There was a reptile house which has many dangerous and good looking reptiles. Due to the glass, I was unable to capture some beautiful reptiles. Turtles look cute and lizards were big ones. Few people were playing with the snakes in their hand so we just had a quick view and then left the place, got scared of those snakes.
I never saw this type of camel before, it was hairy and looking dashing. Had couple of pictures there.
A young camel was friendly enough that my parents stand by that camel to feed him some fruits. A caretaker was there to take some tip for that, in fact each cage and animal is accompanied with a caretaker who were helping people to feed animals. It was looking great and such a new experience for me.
There are too many lions in too many cages. They have a separate space. It was a good feeling to see those active and healthy lions.
An Ostrich was playing with the caretaker and was trying to snatch all of her food at once. She was making him frustrated.
Luckily, we saw a peacock dance, opened all of his feathers and dancing around in the cage. It was so amazing to watch.
There were plenty of animals and I was busy in eating popcorn so didn’t took pictures of all the animals.
The best moment for me was when I gave a spoon of honey to Mr. Bear. He was just lying beside me, I got little nervous at first but then it was all cool.
We met few family friends there who were also enjoying with their families. We had a great fun time at Giza Zoo.
