I have been in Rome for about a week at my uncle's and since I have visited the city of Rome several times but have never visited the suburbs or other places close to Rome, I decided together with my uncle to go to nearby Tivoli where there are two splendid masterpieces of classical and Renaissance art, the splendid Villa d'Este and Villa Adriana.

The entrance fee for the Dueville is about €20, a fairly expensive price but still it is fair to contribute to the maintenance of these artistic assets otherwise you can enter on the first Sunday of the month for free.

I have to tell you that Hadrian's Villa impressed me quite a bit, also because it turns out to be the largest villa that belonged to a Roman emperor Hadrian and is a testament to the level of building and architectural skill achieved in Roman times.

I don't know how I have managed so far not to visit these places that are only 25 kilometres away from Rome.

I also really liked Villa d'Este, which was only built in 1550 by Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este and is most famous for the many water features in its garden.

We have to remember that both villas are Unesco World Heritage Sites, but in Villa d'Este there is this masterpiece of an Italian garden and I was impressed by the concentration of fountains, nymphaeums, grottos certainly a garden that has been much copied around Europe.

I hope you have the chance to visit Tivoli remember these places maybe if you come on holiday to Rome Capital and I hope you enjoyed the photos I took.
