Hi there my Steemian friends and followers!
It is the first Sunday of February today and just like with a vast majority of the previous Sundays here on my Steem blog, I am coming with a sunset photography to make another contribution to the golden hour photo series that used to be one of the most popular photo challenges on the blockchain. It was just a couple of days ago when I happened to witness this spectacular scenery conjured up by Mother Nature herself.
I was just on my way back from Sao Roque to our AirBnb apartment here in Ponta Delgada when I noticed this colorful spectacle up in the sky. There is a beautiful and well maintained promenade along the coast stretching all the way from the Ponta Delgada center to Sao Roque and maybe even up to Livramento (I need to check it out the next time).
Officially, Sao Roque is a civil parish in the Ponta Delgada municipality but if fact, it just feels like another neighborhood of the town. There are some signs reading "Sao Roque" in there but I think most people don´t even realize they are crossing a border to another parish as the promenade is lined with a continuous housing development from one side and the Atlantic Ocean from the other.
Home to some 5,000 people and a picturesque church perched on a cliff right above the ocean that I wrote about in this post some time ago, Sao Roque is also known for its beaches. The Azores are not your typical seaside destination with stunning beaches all around. The coast is mostly made up by massive volcanic cliffs and there is actually just a few beaches on the archipelago and Sao Roque is where you can find some of the most popular beaches of the Sao Miguel Island. I took some photos of them too and I am thinking about dedicating the next episode of my Beauties of Azores series to the beaches of Sao Miguel so stay tuned ;)
