During the holiday, I try to visit the natural beauties and historical monuments of my hometown Bartın whenever possible. It's a fact, I'm also aware that I've done injustice to my own city. I should never underestimate its museums, history and natural beauties. I understood this even better after visiting the Kuşkayası Road monument in Amasra district.

The monument is located on the old Amasra road between Bartın and Amasra. Only local people living in villages close to this road use this road. The new road has been made both shorter and wider and more convenient. The monument is located on the old road of Amasra district. It is about twenty minutes away from the province of Bartın. This road, which is known as the old Amasra road, is narrow and single-lane, and the trees and leaves scattered on the road have started to block the road day by day. Stopping on the side of the road and parking your vehicle, you come across beautiful landscapes that see the sea among the greenery.

The Kuşkayası Road monument is accessed from the side of the road by a road with wide, steep wooden stairs that seem to open in the middle of the mountain slope. The edges of the wooden stairs are covered with grass, trees and greenery. There is a picture information board about Kuşkayası next to the stairs. It was written here that the monument was built by Gaius Julius Aguilla, who was appointed as the Governor of Bithynia Pontus on condition of registration after he was the commander of the construction army of the eastern provinces during the reign of Roman Emperor Tiberius Germanicus Claudius between 41-54 AD. As you go up the stairs, you also notice the smell of the green beauties around and the beauty that appeals to the eyes. Since there is a steep, tiring stairway, we can take a break on the wooden rest benches in the middle of the road.

I came here with my brother and his family. Since my nephews were tired, I continued to walk on this difficult road, taking my little niece in my arms. At every step we took, we did not neglect to look at the sea, which appears among the greenery. I can even say that my little nephew, Can, by the way, uncle, look at the sea, and directed me towards that direction.

At the end of a long steep wooden staircase journey, we came to the part of the monument. It consists of two inscriptions carved on a steep mossy rock, standing side by side. One of these inscriptions contains a human figure and the other an eagle figure. When you see these reliefs on a steep mossy rock about a hundred meters high, people look in admiration and amazement. It is not known for certain whether this human figure without a clothed head belongs to Emperor Gladius or Aguilla. The main relief is the eagle figure made on a thick carved column right next to it. We couldn't leave without posing with my brother in front of this magnificent monument.

On the edge of the monument, there are wide uphill passageways running along the road. The greenery that appears after the mossy grass that accumulates on the high rock reveals the beauty of the rock. We start to visit the monument by walking accompanied by a high steep rock on the right and the sea shining through the tree branches on the left. As I walk along the road, I encounter small puddles on the ground. It is also said that there used to be a monumental fountain here by the locals. This monumental fountain water, which could not defy time and started to collapse, was known as Askersuyu.

The road passing in front of the monument is known as the Roman Road. When you walk to the end of this road, you reach Kemerdere Bridge in Amasra's Cevizlik Valley. While walking on this road, the abundance of ferns around us also catches my eye. Since there used to be tap water here, it had a wetland area. He loves these grasses in moist soil.

The fact that the monument is located on the historical old road of Bartın-Amasra further increases the interest here. The human figure and the headless eagle figure carved into that steep rock have the value of a true work of art. I am among those who think that this place should be protected. Bayram boyunca memleketim Bartın'ın doğal güzelliklerini ve tarihi eserlerini fırsat buldukça gezmeye çalışıyorum. Şu bir gerçek, kendi şehrime haksızlık yaptığımın da farkındayım. Müzelerini, tarihini ve doğal güzelliklerini hiç te hafife almamam gerekiyormuş. Bunu, Amasra ilçesinde yer alan Kuşkayası Yol anıtını gezdikten sonra daha da iyi anladım.

Anıt, Bartın Amasra arasında yer alan eski Amasra yolu üzerinde yer alıyor. Bu yolu sadece, bu yola yakın köylerde yaşanan yerli halk kullanıyor. Yeni yol hem daha kısa hem de daha geniş ve kullanışlı yapılmıştır. Anıt, Amasra ilçesinin eski yol üzerinde yer alıyor. Bartın iline yaklaşık yirmi dakika uzaklığındadır. Eski Amasra yolu olarak geçen bu yol, dar ve tek şeritli olup, yola savrulan ağaçlar ve yaprakları da gün geçtikçe yolu kapatmaya başlamış. Yolun kenarında durup, aracınızı park ettikten sonra denizi yeşilliklerinin arasında gören güzel manzaralarla karşılaşıyorsunuz.

Kuşkayası Yol anıtına, yolun kenarından sanki dağ yamacının ortasında açılan dik ahşap geniş merdivenleri olan bir yoldan gidiliyor. Ahşap merdivenlerin kenarları, otlarla ,ağaçlarla ve yeşilliklerle kaplanmış. Merdivenin yanı başında Kuşkayası hakkında resimli bilgilendirme panosu yer alıyor. Burada anıtın, M.S 41-54 tarihleri arasında Roma İmparatoru Tiberius Germanicus Cladius zamanında doğu eyaletleri inşaat ordusu komutanlığı yaptıktan sonra kayd-i hayat şartıyla Bithynia Pontus Valiliğe atanan Gaius Julius Aguilla tarafından yaptırılan bir anıt olduğu yazıyordu. Merdivenlerden yukarı doğru çıkarken, etraftaki yemyeşil güzelliklerin kokusunu ve gözlere hitap eden güzelliğini de fark ediyorsunuz. Dik yorucu bir merdiven yolu olduğu için yolun ortasında ahşaptan yapılmış dinlenme banklarında mola verebiliyoruz.

Buraya ben, kardeşim ve ailesiyle birlikte geldim. Yeğenlerim yorulduğu için küçük yeğenimi de kucağıma alarak bu zorlu yolda yürümeye devam ettim. Attığımız her adımda da yeşillikler arasında görünen denize de bakmayı ihmal etmedik. Hatta küçük yeğenim Can arada dayı bak deniz görünüyor, diyerek o tarafa doğru beni yönelttiğini de söyleyebilirim.

Uzun dik bir ahşap merdiven yolculuğu sonunda anıtın olduğu bölüme geldik. Yosunlu dik bir kayanın üzerine oyulmuş, yan yana duran iki kitabeden oluşuyor. Bu kitabelerden biri insan figürü, diğeri ise bir kartal figürünü içeriyor. Yaklaşık yüz metre yüksekliğinde dik bir yosunlu kayanın üstündeki bu kabartmaları görünce insan hayranlıkla ve şaşkınlıkla bakıyor. Giyimli kafası olmayan bu insan figürünün İmparator Gladius' a mı yoksa Aguilla' ya mı ait olduğu kesin olarak bilinmiyor. Asıl kabartma hemen yanı başında bulunan kalın oyma sütun üzerine yapılan kartal figürüdür. Bu muhteşem anıtın önünde kardeşimle beraber poz vermeden de ayrılamazdık.

Anıt, kenarında yol boyunca uzanan geniş yokuş yukarı ara geçiş yolları bulunuyor. Yüksek kaya parçasının üzerinde biriken yosunlu çimenlerin ardından gözüken yeşillikler kaya parçasının güzelliğini de ortaya koyuyor. Sağında yüksek dik kaya parçası, solunda da ağaç dallarının arasından parlayan deniz eşliğinde yürüyerek anıtı gezmeye başlıyoruz. Yol boyunca yürüdükçe toprakta az da olsa su birikintileriyle karşılaşıyorum. Burada çok eskiden yerli halk tarafından bir anıtsal çeşme olduğu da söyleniyor. Zamana meydan okuyamayan ve yıkılmaya başlayan bu anıtsal çeşme suyu, Askersuyu olarak anılırmış.

Anıtın önünden geçen yol Roma Yolu olarak anılıyor. Bu yolun sonuna kadar yürüdüğünüzde Amasra'nın Cevizlik Vadisi'ndeki Kemerdere Köprüsüne ulaşıyorsunuz. Bu yolda yürürken, etrafımızdaki eğrelti otlarının fazlalığı da gözüme çarpıyor. Burada çok eskiden çeşme suyu olduğu için sulak bir bölgeye sahip olmuş. Nemli toprakta bu otları çok seviyor.

Anıtın, Bartın-Amasra tarihi eski yol üstünde bulunması da buraya olan ilgiyi daha fazla arttırıyor. O dik kaya parçasına oyularak yapılan insan figürü ve başı olmayan kartal figürü tam bir sanat eseri değerini taşıyor. Buranın koruma altına alınması gerektiğini düşünenler arasındayım.
