The old-fashioned castles built in cities that have always had a coast to the sea have been dazzling for me. Amasra Castle can be shown as the best example of these. The fact that this is a district of my hometown also makes me happy. I spent my childhood and youth playing games with my friends among these castles that smell of history.

Amasra Castle is about 20 minutes away from my hometown of Bartın. As you can go with your own vehicle, minibuses depart from Bartın every half hour, especially in summer. You do not need to pay any fee to visit the castle. Amasra Castle connects Somagir Castle and Zindan Castle, which has a magnificent structure around it, with a bridge called Boztepe Arch. The architectural features of the Byzantines, Genoese and finally the Ottomans stand out in the castle, which is located in the Amasra district of Bartın. At the entrance to Amasra Castle, they proudly stated on the board that it is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List by Amasra Municipality. It is written on the board right next to it, which is introduced in two different languages, that Amasra Castle was built for the first time during the Roman period, and the city walls that are standing today were built during the Byzantine period. In addition, front walls and gates were built by the Genoese in the 14th and 15th centuries AD, and they were better defended.

These castles, built to protect Amasra, look really solid. The castles were built on a hill, which is the safest and most difficult to reach point of the city. You can see the city and the sea clearly from the castle. Recesses were formed between the high historical stones formed by arranging about fifteen castle walls side by side. In front of the castle, there is a long, straight and narrow road made of old stones. As you walk along the road, you can notice the smell of green ivy herbs surrounding the castle walls. Since there is a cliff below the road, they blocked its way with iron bars for security purposes. There are also transition points, which consist of stairs made of old stones and covered with green grass, to go from the city to the castle.

When you go up to Amasra Castle, there is a wide beach on the north-facing side, which they call Büyükliman Gate. On the south side, there is the Chain Gate. When you look through the 8 bastions on the castles, you can notice the beauty of the landscape much more clearly.

In the back streets of the castles, there are old two-storey wooden houses from the Greeks and Ottomans. Some of these houses have been converted into hostels. While walking around the streets, you come across many shopkeepers promoting the Amasra region. Some corners are specially prepared for making a souvenir.

When I saw this beautiful colorful corner between the streets, I wanted to stop. I think they named the house Derviş Mehmet house. Although I wanted to enter the house, which looks extremely spacious and magnificent, unfortunately they closed its doors. But I also learn from the neighbors living nearby that the landlord is extremely hospitable and lends a helping hand to everyone. Derviş Mehmet Bey even decorated his door with extremely beautiful and pleasing colors for the guests. I will pose in front of this door. Just opposite the door, I notice the tall, broad trunked tree with green ivy surrounding its trunk. They tried to add color by hanging old shoes and colorful slippers on the trunk of the tree.

Now, I would like to show you the Dungeon Castle, which is the most beloved of the castle, and which the guests insistently want to see and pass through. You can continue to visit the castle by passing through a high castle and an arch-shaped gate opening between it. In addition, this castle also serves as a bridge. You can stand on the bridge and watch the sea and the rabbit island opposite. Even if the inside of the castle wall is a bit dark and creepy, you can breathe easy when you see the view after you come out.

I also liked the fact that the sea can be seen from time to time through these narrow stony roads that smell of history while visiting the castle. Since some roads are steep and uphill, I took a break by sitting on the stones in front of those old wooden houses. After visiting the castle completely, I came to the tea garden, which is close to the center and which is called the sefa park, which everyone frequents, and I completed my trip here.

Her zaman denize kıyısı olan şehirlerde kurulan eski yapı kaleler benim için göz kamaştırıcı olmuştur. İşte Amasra Kalesi de bunlara en iyi örnek olarak gösterilebilir. Buranın benim memleketim bir ilçesi olması da bende ayrı bir mutluluk yaratıyor. Küçüklük ve gençlik yıllarımı tarih kokan bu kaleler arasında arkadaşlarımla oyunlar oynayarak geçirdim.

Amasra Kalesi, memleketim olan Bartın iline yaklaşık 20 dakika uzaklıktadır. Kendi aracınızla gidebileceğiniz gibi, özellikle yazın her yarım saatte bir Bartın'dan dolmuşlar kalkmaktadır. Kaleyi ziyaret edebilmek için her hangi bir ücret ödemenize gerek yoktur. Amasra Kalesi, çevresinde bulunan ve son derece görkemli bir yapıya sahip olan, Sormagir Kalesi ile Zindan Kalesini Boztepe Kemeri adı verilen bir köprüyle bağlamaktadır. Bartın'ın Amasra ilçesinde yer alan kalede Bizanslıların, Cenevizlilerin ve son olarak da Osmanlıların mimari özellikleri göze çarpmaktadır. Amasra Kalesine girişte, Amasra Belediyesi tarafından UNESCO Dünya Miras Geçici Listesinde olduğunu gururla panoda belirtmişler. Hemen yanı başındaki iki farklı dilde tanıtım yapılan panoda, Amasra Kalesi ilk kez Romalılar döneminde, bugün ayakta duran surlar ise Bizanslılar döneminde yapıldığını yazmışlar. Bunun yanında M.S 14. ve 15. yüzyıllarda Cenovalılar tarafından ön duvarlar ve kapılar yapılarak daha iyi savunmaya alınmış.

Amasra'yı korumak için inşa edilen bu kaleler gerçekten çok sağlam görünüyorlar. Kaleler şehrin en güvenli ve ulaşılması zor bir noktası olan tepe bir araziye yapılmış. Kaleden şehri ve denizi net olarak görebilirsiniz. Yaklaşık on beş kale duvarının yan yana dizilerek oluşturulan yüksek tarihi taşların aralarında oyuklar oluşturulmuş. Kalenin önünde yine eski taşlardan oluşturulmuş düz ve dar sayılabilecek uzun bir yol var. Kale duvarlarını saran yeşil sarmaşık otların kokusunu yol boyunca yürüdükçe fark edebiliyorsunuz. Yolun aşağısı uçurum olduğu için güvenlik amaçlı olarak demir parmaklıklarla önünü kapatmışlar. Şehirden kaleye çıkmak için, eski taşlardan yapılmış ve etrafı yeşil otlarla kaplanmış merdivenler oluşan geçiş noktaları da bulunuyor.

Amasra Kalesine çıktığınızda, kuzeye bakan tarafında, Büyükliman Kapısı adını verdikleri geniş bir plaj bulunmaktadır. Güney tarafında ise, Zincir Kapısı yer alır. Kalelerin üstünde yer alan 8 adet burçların arasından baktığınızda manzaranın güzelliğini çok daha net fark edebilirsiniz.

Kalelerin arka sokaklarında Rumlardan ve Osmanlılardan kalma eski iki katlı ahşap evlerde bulunuyor. Bu evlerin bazıları pansiyon haline çevrilmiş. Sokak aralarında gezerken Amasra yöresini tanıtan bir çok esnafa rastlıyorsunuz. Bazı köşeler özellikle hatıra anısı çektirmek için özel olarak hazırlanmış.

Sokak arasındaki bu güzel renkli köşeyi görünce durmak istedim. Sanırım eve Derviş Mehmet evi adını vermişler. Son derece geniş ve ihtişamlı görünen eve girmek istesem de kapılarını maalesef kapatmışlar. Ama ev sahibinin son derece misafirperver olduğunu ve herkese yardım elini uzattığını da yakınında oturan komşulardan öğreniyorum. Derviş Mehmet Bey kapısını bile gelen misafirler için son derece güzel ve göze hoş gelen renklerle süslemiş. Bende bu kapının önünde pozumu veririm. Kapının tam karşısında da uzun, geniş gövdeli ve gövdesini saran yeşil sarmaşıklı ağaçta dikkatimi çekiyor. Ağacın gövdesini eski pabuç ve renkli terlikler asarak, renk katmaya çalışmışlar.

Şimdi sizlere kalenin en sevilen ve gelen misafirlerin ısrarla görmek isteyip, içinden geçtikleri Zindan Kalesini göstermek istiyorum. Yüksek bir kale ve arasına açılan kemer şeklinde kapının içinden geçerek, kaleyi gezmeye devam edebilirsiniz. Ayrıca bu kale bir köprü vazifesi de görüyor. Kale duvarının içi biraz karanlık ve ürperticide olsa, çıktıktan sonraki manzarayı görünce rahat nefes alıyorsunuz.

Kaleyi, gezerken tarih kokan bu dar taşlı yollar arasından denizin ara ara görünmesi de çok hoşuma gitti. Bazı yollar dik ve yokuş yukarı olduğu için o eski ahşap evlerin önünde taşlara oturarak biraz mola verdim. Kaleyi tamamen gezdikten sonra merkeze yakın olan ve herkesin sıklıkla uğradığı sefa park adını verdikleri çay bahçesine gelerek, buradaki gezimi tamamlamış oldum.
