On my journey through the world, we are in the Dominican Republic, in Sosua to be exact. Today, I'll share some of the fun things we experience here!

Sosúa is a town of about 37,000 inhabitants on the north coast of the Dominican Republic.
Sosúa is still very much influenced by Europeans and especially German immigrants, this is because in 1938 numerous European Second World War refugees came to the Dominican Republic and helped to build up the area around Sosúa.

We live in the district of el Batey and share a villa with other travelers and the owner we have our small apartment next to the main house but can share all the amenities of the large villa, pool, large outdoor area, barbecue area, garden, etc...its perfect to work and to relax.

There is nothing better than riding around on a scooter on the "field paths" near our home. you feel so free to enjoy the beautiful landscape and every now and then you meet a herd of cows or a couple of geese on the road.

On the main street in the city, it is over with the relaxed driving, the Dominicans drive as they want, demand the right of way, and overtake you from all sides. you have to be very concentrated when you drive and have to always watch out.

The scooters, especially the cars, look accordingly, completely dented, partly without a bumper. number plates you see here anyway very rarely. that would be unthinkable in Europe, but here not so important :D

After we made a small city tour and looked at the other districts of Sosua, we were so stressed by the traffic that we had to take a break and have a beer.

We sat down in a cool bar overlooking a large swimming pool and the beer spontaneously became a Caipirinha ... but the waiter did not know how to mix them, we choked on the first sip totally because the caipi was just extremely sour.

... the waiter came laughing at us and asked us if something is wrong, we asked him laughing if he mixed the caipirinha only with lime juice ..It was incredibly sour ...he said he did not quite know how to mix it... I said yes you can taste that :D he said the only "cocktail" he could make was a Cuba libre hahaha

As compensation, he brought us a Dominican shot or rather liqueur called "mamajuana" a mixture of rum, red wine, cinnamon, honey, and a mixture of wood, tree bark, and leaves.

as you can see on my face , the liqueur is totally strong

The Dominicans swear by the medicinal properties of this herb and use it for various ailments. I think you get more of a headache from it but well ... it tastes incredibly sweet anc, this made the sour caipirinha better :D

Mamajuana has been around for over 800 years and was also used as a potency enhancer in the past. It is referred to by locals as "Dominican Viagra" or "the baby maker" and traditional recipes used to include the penis of the sea turtle - the main aphrodisiac ingredient - although this is omitted from most commercial products for legal reasons. I think we drank it without the penis flavor haha

All in all, we were there only a short time but got quite drunk....was that the intention of the waiter ?? ;) Because we still had to drive the scooter in the 'loco streets' of Sosua we ordered a small snack.. There was Bruschetta and Calamari. .very tasty! In the end, we made a photo with the nice waiter

Half drunk we strolled a bit through Sosua -el Batey, I went to every second-hand shop in town, bought a new bikini top, and in the end, we found a cool street directly on the beach with a lot of souvenir shops, bars, and restaurants, one would not have expected such a large tourist street in this small town. we will eat something here next time and spend a relaxing day at the beach.

bank employees with machine guns and women with a lot of fruit on their heads, are quite normal in Sosua!

We did the grocery shopping for the week. the groceries are unbelievably expensive in the Dominican republic, the island is alive and the inflation says hello. If you don't pay attention to the prices, you can quickly spend 11 dollars on toilet paper :O

When we got home we worked for another 1, 2 hours, but after all the drinks we couldn't really concentrate anymore, so we mixed a new drink and started a small pool party until the night.

Definitely a good day in Sosua with a hangover the next day included :) must also be...I can only recommend Sosua to everyone, especially if you like water sports like diving and snorkeling...I'm looking forward to the next few days when we explore neighboring towns like Cabarete and Puerto Plata.

I will then share my experiences and stories with you again, thanks for reading> I would really appreciate a comment and a like!

See you soon,

Anna
