I am currently in Sosua, after spending 1 week in the hectic city life in Santo Domingo the small coastal town is just what I wanted.
Sosua is a town with about 37,000 inhabitants on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. The city is located in the province of Puerto Plata. The beach of Sosúa, located in a protected bay, is especially well known. It has a coral reef in front of it, which is home to tropical fish, colorful plants, and beautiful sunsets.
We rented a scooter and explored the area a little. Passing meadows and pastures with cows, we suddenly found an old castle, on the highest point of the mountain. we thought it was a castle because the architecture reminded us totally of it.
We went inside and looked around, but we quickly realized that it was a private half-built house. It was so powerful and almost built like a palace.
The massive arches and columns reminded us a bit of Greek architecture.
We found a huge pool with XXL outdoor grill area, a sauna or steam bath huge living area, with a beautiful sea view.
We felt like we were in the estate of the king of Sosua himself.
the villa was half-finished, the 2nd floor was not yet complete but there were electrical outlets and there were even mirrors already hanging on the walls.
we wondered what the story behind this property is, who builds such a palace and stops almost finished? had he run out of money? and especially who builds a castle wall around his house and including a bridge in medieval style ... missing only the moat and the crocodiles.h
At home, we asked our Airbnb landlord what the story behind this crazy place is. He said the owner is probably in prison, involved in not quite legal transactions.
Too bad about the great villa, with a little cleaning and fresh pool water I could imagine moving in 😊
