Yesterday we visited the museum " Castillo Mundo king " in Sosua.
We heard that it's about aliens. We expected a normal building with a few exhibits. We drove on the beautiful roads, past a herd of cows that I tried to pet, up to a hill of the coastal city.
As I said, we expected nothing special and saw already from a distance, this "castle". Such a beautiful and at the same time crazy building I've never seen before!
In the entrance area of this bizarre castle, you'd already be struck by the many sculptures and the fantastic architecture.
In the five-story castle are hundreds of unusual artworks, including alien-themed artwork, extraterrestrial messages, and, at least four spaceships.
Rolf Schulz, a German artist, decided at the age of 51 that he would leave his hometown, Hamburg, to pursue his dream of building a castle in the Dominican Republic. And so the "Castillo Mundo King " was born.
He commissioned the sculptures and murals mostly from artists from Haiti and the Dominican Republic who then made them.
It's a little bit hard to describe the museum, "museum" is the wrong word, the crazy place? bizarre castle? Alien temple? However it's hard to describe it in words, for this reason, I will show you more photos.
The building is so interesting and you need more than 100 hours to understand the sculptures and artworks but some of the sculptures give you a weird vibe when you see statues like this...
Rolf Schulz, the builder of this crazy castle, started his project in 1990 and worked until his death in 2018 on it. He lived and worked in this house, without water and electricity. today the children of Rolf Schulz take care of the museum and have made it t open for visitors.
Before his death, he would bombard visitors with stories of UFOs and extraterrestrial life. He said the aliens would also come by regularly. Too bad I couldn't talk to him in person, I would have been very interested in his stories. Maybe he just knew more than we did, or he took a little bit too much LSD :D Anyway, he leaves behind an impressive memory. And there might just be a chance that he isn't dead but has been picked up and is now living on another planet ;)
It was the best museum visit in my life and I am thankful that I saw this magical, strange place!
