The old hospital del Ceppo as the name suggest was initially an hospital since the 1200 when it was an hospital with nun and church men. They gel poor people, that's why the hospital was named del Ceppo dei poveri (the trunk of poor people). And I was an hospital since 7 years ago. Now you can have here some medical appointments and in the other parts of the hospital there is a museum
The hospital is situated in a square in front of the art opera "LA luna nel pozzo" The moon in the flood, it's a modern art opera and it was placed on front of the hospital in contrapposition with the old art on the hospital.
For the hospital they inspired the construction on hospital degli innocenti of Florence, also the loggia its very similar.
In 1500 Giovanni della robbia the famous sculpture make the tondoes for the hospital and after that he became very famous many tourists come to see the art of Della robbia that was revolutionary because very colorful and with different ceramics.
About the art Luna nel pozzo by Gianni Ruffi people still discuss a lot about it, some are OK with it others dislike this kind of art in my opinion it's quite interesting and typical.
In the city many still think to change the place of this opera, because any people don't like the mix between modern and old.

Actually close to the hospital therale are also a lovely restaurant and a shop, sometimes they put some other statues in the square. I love both the old hospital and the modern art.
