So Western Springs parkrun in Auckland, New Zealand ticked a lot of box’s for us on our totally arbitrary quest for parkrun stats. A new parkrun for the most event list, our second international country, a West for our compass club. We did their event number 308 back in November of 2022 which I needed for my Wilson index and it was my ninth W! Though I am still working to complete my second alphabet.

Most importantly we got to meet run.vince.run another Hiver who picked us up at our hotel, gave us a lift and even ran with us at parkrun. He beat me by a long way. I think Western Springs was my first 3 lapper too. Fully paved around a lake right next to Auckland’s Zoo. It was a pretty fast course other than this short sharp hill, which of course had to be done 3 times. We had a good short stay in Auckland our accommodation was near the centre of town so we could see all the other tourist things as well. https://travelfeed.com/@new.things/a1-auckland-new-zealand

We hope to visit again one day as there are another 3 parkruns around Auckland, just watch out as peak hour traffic can get really congested. We found the local bus system easy and convenient but used a private express bus service to get to and from the airport.
