Newcastle is New South Wales second biggest city, we have been there a few times because they have lots of different parkruns. There is a lot of Industry around the Hunter River. The early settlers actually found coal just sitting on the riverbank when they were taking refuge from bad weather while sailing past. Of course, this led to future exploration, eventual a settlement and became the largest coal exporting harbour in the world.We have stayed in different sorts of accommodation each time we visit. Once it was a shared Airbnb another was the Youth Hostel in the middle of town. This time we were thinking of a hotel close the parkrun event we wanted to attend but being a Friday night and the hotels accommodation was located on top of their Bar and disco area. We thought it might not be the best idea for us. Great if you want to party and drink all night but not ideal if you want to be up early the next morning. The Holiday Inn was more expensive but included a free breakfast. Parking the car was extra too being close to the middle of town but overall, all was pretty good value for a small but modern room.I have never heard of the Alpine motor cars, but they look pretty slick.Newcastle and the lower Hunter Region were traditionally occupied by the Awabakal and Worimi Aboriginal people, who called the area Malubimba.
