Just ten kilometres south from the centre of Brisbane is Mount Gravatt which has become a pretty trendy and popular suburb of Queensland’s Capital city, With a University next door and being so close to the city any accommodation in the area is in high demand.

It was named after Lieutenant George Gravatt who was in charge of Queensland's first settlement for a while. Before that the traditional custodians called it Kaggurmabul or Caggara-hahbill which means “place of echidna” or “echidna rests here” Unfortunately we did not seen any Echidna today but there is a large bush reserve area there and they do get seen occasionally, we were lucky enough to see one last year down in Tasmania.

Back to Mount Gravatt Central, we did a short walk around the main street shopping complex, checked out a few of the second hand charity shops and looked for some where to eat.

I photographed these 3 murals in one of the shopping arcades which gave a great insight on how things have changed over the years.

We chosen a spot out the back as sitting on the main street and in side was a bit noisy with traffic and takeaway coffee and food orders.
