Last weekend we had the opportunity to visit a place that in our latitudes is quite particular. Towards the northeast of the city of Maracay, is the interesting "Colonia Tovar", a place that is characterized by being inhabited by Germans (mostly descendants) and that for its climate, food and architecture is an attraction for those who want to spend a different time, but it was not there where we went, I mention the Colonia Tovar because in its complicated mountain road there are several sites where paragliding flights are practiced.
We started our trip through the road La Victoria-Colonia Tovar and from the very foot of the mountain we could already appreciate that the weather was beginning to change. The city of Maracay is usually quite hot, so it is easy to notice when the temperature drops and it did so progressively as we climbed the mountains. As you can see in the following photos, the vegetation and the appearance of the mountains change progressively as we go, it is remarkable the impact that the weather has on nature. I was able to take some pictures in the most convenient places along the road.
The road
The Placivel Viewpoint
After about 45 minutes, we arrive at the Placivel viewpoint, a place destined to be a rest for those who climb this exhausting road, where you can buy snacks, strawberries with cream, pork rinds, beer, among other things. The architecture of the restaurant already begins to tell us that Colonia Tovar is near, but for the moment the viewpoint is our destination. The view from there is beautiful, the day was clear so the light was optimal for photos. The tourists were enjoying the weather pleasantly, I would say the temperature was a pleasant 19 degrees Celsius.
Paragliding flight
One of the reasons why this place is visited is because it is one of the many ports in which the most daring people jump down the mountain through the paragliders, watching them move through the sky is impressive and makes you want to try it, but it will be another time, for the moment we will keep thinking about it haha. I think you have to be pretty brave to dare to take to the skies through these elements, at first glance they do not seem very safe, but it is clear that they are.
As heavy and complex as this road is with its steep and sharp curves, it is worth going to this place to refresh your eyes and body. The mountains give a sense of grandeur and make your mind relax. We hope to return soon, but much higher, probably up to Colonia Tovar. In the video you can see in more detail how the paragliding flights are developed. It was a pleasure to share. Greetings!
