A Travel Story : Diyarbakir - Paris of the Southeast Turkiye - Part III
A picture in the garden of the Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı's House
Hello Steemian friends,
Diyarbakir is the one of the cities which i wonder about. It is in the southeast of Turkiye and has a great history inside of it. When it is said Diyarbakir everyone in Turkiye knows its great water-melons. Today i want to talk about its narrow streets, the Bazaar of Rivakli (Sipahiler) , Inn of Hasan Paşa (Pasha) and The House of Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı.
Narrow Streets of the Diyarbakir
One of the interesting and beautiful thing is that Diyarbakir has generally got narrow streets to walk and actually it makes people feel like living in the past. You can walk in these stone made roads too. These roads are connected to each other and very close to the bazaar.
Actually Diyarbakir is a heaven for the street and documantery photographers. Even if i spent two days i took a lot of pictures and saw many things interesting.
The Sipahiler Bazaar
The Sipahiler Bazaar, located behind the Diyarbakır Grand Mosque, was one of the centers of trade and shopping in the past.
Sipahiler Bazaar has been one of the northeastern trading centers for many years and has also become one of the important industrial centers. Especially known for his famous texts. Although it lost its former splendor and its importance in live trade, the mobility of the bazaar is still continuing by tradesmen.
Sipahiler Bazaar, which introduces the city culture closely, is one of the most curious points of tourists coming to city today.
The Inn of Hasan Paşa(Pasha)
The historical Hasan Pasha Inn was started to be constructed by the son of the Diyarbakir Governor Sokullu, Vezirzade Hasan Pasha, between 1572-1575 as understood from the above book. However, during this period, Governor Hasan Pasha was appointed as a relative and the governor of the period was completed during the period of Osman Pasha.
There are three inscriptions on the east side of the building, on the south side and on the entrance door, giving insights into when and by whom the inn was built. The Polish Simeon who visited Diyarbakir in 1612 and traveled to the city mentioned handa on his travels, saying "There are a large number of rooms and two large stables under the ground that can accommodate 500 wrestlers". XVII. Evliya Çelebi, who came to the city in centuries, mentioned Hasan Paşa Hanin as "a castle-like structure, a text and a fortunate structure".
The Hasan Pasha Inn, located in the commercial center of the city, is the second largest handicap in Diyarbakir after Delilah Inn. It is a courtyard, two storeys with a rectangular plan scheme. It also shows that the two colored stones are used horizontally in the façades and they are longer. There are doors to the right and left side of the staircase that descend into the barn area. The courtyard has a rectangular plan and has been kept very rough, with a six-column in the middle, a décor covered with a dome, adds a courtyard movement. There are staircases leading to the upper ridge on the right and left of the west and eastern javan opening to the courtyard. There are also porticoes on the upper floors and there are rooms behind these porticoes. Han basement, courtyard section and upper floor is three-storey.
There is a barn section in the basement of the inn that will house the animals of the caravans. Hasan Paşa Hanı, which is a touristic place now, is being restored and is hosting various tourist enterprises and cafes. Some of the units that have been built as ranch before the camels and horses have been functioned as book houses nowadays in closed restaurants.
I advise you all you must have a breakfast in this inn if you will come to Diyarbakir.
The House of Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı
Long story short, Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı is one of the best poets in Turkiye. He is from Diyarbakir and son of a rich family. Here you can see his mansion in Diyarbakir and also his stuffs that he used when he lived in Diyarbakir.
