Hello my dear friends, today I want to share with you a very special place, ideal for spending a pleasant time relaxing and celebrating.
I want to show you the Yellow Submarine Club, a cultural center that pays tribute to the Beatles, that rock band that so revolutionized music and still makes us enjoy it; the good stuff is unforgettable.
The club is in a simple space on the ground floor of a building at the intersection of 17th and 6th Streets in Vedado, right next to John Lennon Park, where the sculpture of this beloved musician and composer of beautiful songs is located.
When we pass by the park, we greet John Lennon, immortalized on a bench with his serene expression. It's a sculpture admired by many visitors and has become a must-see in Havana.
We arrived early on a Sunday for the matinee, which starts in the afternoon and runs until 10 pm. Its exterior is decorated with drawings alluding to the cover of the album Yellow Submarine. But the real surprise lies within. Its walls are adorned with drawings, photos, memorabilia, and song lyrics.
Entering is like diving into that great submarine; it's as if those legendary musicians are right there with us, surrounded by their photos and music.
We're greeted with video clips of the great pop-rock classics from the 1970s and 90s—music made with soul never dies or gets boring. As this musical magic enveloped us, we looked for a place to sit. There were still only a few people. We ordered drinks: my husband a beer and I a daiquiri, which was delicious.
I paused to carefully observe the entire interior: the play of lights, the music, the allegorical drawings—everything combined to create a very welcoming place. It was a true pleasure to be there.
In the bar, there's a very special corner dedicated to the Beatles. A photograph of John and Yoko, dated August 1971, taken at their London home by Tom Hanley, who gave a copy to a prominent English photographer friend of Cuba, who in turn donated it to this cultural center. The photograph is signed by Yoko herself in 2013 upon learning that he would be coming here. This is the best place to safeguard it and for it to be seen by all who visit.
A memento of Paul McCartney's visit to Santiago de Cuba on January 14, 2000, preserved in a frame. He left us a note where he personally wrote: "Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen!" and included a very funny drawing of himself. It's a 26-year-old relic!
There is also a beautiful drawing of John's face with a bee hummingbird, an endemic bird of Cuba. This drawing was given to Guille Vilar, who in turn donated it to this place.
Later, the group Los Gens, one of the legendary Cuban rock bands, began their performance. They got us dancing to classic international hits as well as their own original songs.
Time flew by as we enjoyed ourselves with beers, daiquiris, great music, and dancing. It was a very special day because we were celebrating my husband's birthday. This is an excellent place to celebrate if you like classic music from that era.

Submarino Amarillo: entre tributo y celebración
Hola mis estimados amigos, hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un lugar muy especial, ideal para pasar un buen rato de esparcimiento y de celebración.
Les quiero mostrar el Club Submarino Amarillo, un centro cultural que le rinde tributo a los Beatles, esa banda de rock que tanto revolucionó la música y aún nos hace disfrutar con ella, es que lo bueno no se olvida.
El club está en un local sencillo en los bajos de un edificio en la intersección de las calles 17 y 6 del Vedado, justo al lado del parque nombrado John Lennon donde se encuentra la escultura de este querido músico y compositor de hermosas canciones.
Cuando pasamos por el parque saludamos a John Lennon inmortalizado en un banco con su semblante tranquilo, es una escultura admirada por muchos visitantes, ya es un lugar de obligada visita en La Habana.
Llegamos temprano un domingo a la matiné que comienza en la tarde hasta las 10 pm. Su apariencia exterior está decorada con dibujos alegóricos a la portada del disco Submarino Amarillo. Pero la verdadera sorpresa está en su interior. Sus paredes están decoradas con dibujos, fotos, recuerdos y letras de canciones.
Entrar es como sumergirnos dentro de ese gran submarino, es como si estuvieran con nosotros esos grandiosos músicos, nos rodean con sus fotos y su música.
Nos reciben con videos clips de los grandes clásicos del pop-rock de los años 1970-90, esa música hecha con el alma no muere ni aburre. Mientras nos envolvía esta magia musical buscamos donde sentarnos, aún había pocas personas, pedimos algo de beber, mi esposo una cerveza y yo un daiquiri, que estaba muy sabroso.
Me detuve a observar con detenimiento todo su interior, el juego de luces, la música, sus dibujos alegóricos, todo hacía en su conjunto un lugar muy acogedor, era un verdadero placer estar ahí.
En el bar hay un rincón muy especial dedicado a los Beatles. Una foto de John y Yoko fechada en agosto de 1971, tomada en su propia casa en Londres por Tom Hanley, quien le obsequió una copia a una importante fotógrafa inglesa amiga de Cuba que, a su vez, la donó a este centro cultural. La foto está firmada por la propia Yoko en el 2013 al saber que vendría para este lugar. Este es el mejor lugar para custodiarla y que sea conocida por todos los que lo visitan.
Un recuerdo de la visita de Paul McCartney a Santiago de Cuba el 14 de enero del 2000, conservado en un cuadro. Nos dejó una nota donde escribió personalmente: Muchas Gracias señores, señoras y señoritas! e hizo un dibujo de sí mismo muy gracioso. ¡Es una reliquia de hace 26 años!
También hay un bello dibujo del rostro de John con un zunzún, ave endémica de Cuba. Este cuadro fue obsequiado a Guille Vilar, quien la dona a su vez a este lugar.
Más tarde, comenzó la actuación del grupo Los Gens, una de las legendarias bandas cubanas de rock, la cual nos hizo bailar con temas antológicos internacionales y también propios de la agrupación.
El tiempo se nos fue volando mientras disfrutábamos entre cervezas, daikiris, buena música y baile. Fue un día muy especial porque ese día celebramos el cumpleaños de mi esposo. Este es un lugar excelente para celebrar si te gusta la música antológica de esos años.
