An Alster round trip is a nice activity in the Hanseatic city, especially on warm summer days. Currently I'm back in Germany for about 1 1/2 months and will write about Germany more often here on Steemit.

Although I live in this area for about 30 years, I have never done an Alster round trip before. Unbelievable, actually! With my girlfriend from Thailand, who visited Hamburg, I was able to 'play tourist' again. And I fully enjoyed it!

Around the Alster in one hour

Although the Alster looks more like a lake, it's actually a river as a whole. It's more precisely a 56 kilometer tributary of the Elbe River. Alster is Hamburg's second most important river. The Alster Lake with the Binnenalster and Außenalster is the heart of Hamburg and a popular place for relaxing, doing sports and in winter even for ice skating. The atmosphere is gorgeous and I love to visit this area again and again.

A round trip you can do all year round, even in the winter (at least if the Alster is not frozen). Of course it's most beautiful in summer, when the parks and trees on the edge of the Alster are beautifully green and the lake is full of sailboats and happy people.

The trip begins at the Binnenalster (Inner Alster), more precisely at the Jungfernstieg. Opposite the subway station (next to the ALEX Restaurant) you can choose a boat/provider and usually leave almost immediately. In any case, when the boat is full enough or at certain times. You can buy tickets directly next to or on the boat.

From the Binnenalster the boat goes under the Lombardsbrücke, then to the great Alster, the Outer Alster (Außenalster). There you have a wonderful panorama of the city of Hamburg as well as the beautiful parks and villas of Uhlenhorst. The most beautiful view, however, comes on the return journey, when you cross the Lombardsbrücke again and go back to the Binnenalster...

Conclusion: An Alster round trip is highly recommended and we both really liked it! I also found it exciting to see the city from this tourist perspective.
