Greetings, travelers!
Well, we all, probably, know why people usually go to the famous island of Thasos in Greece.
That is, to have a great, calm, sunny and wonderful summer vacation!
Now, from my perspective of a guy, who loves travel photography, that marvelous island is much, much more than simply an awesome vacation destination. I suppose that statement could be proved by the fact I traveled to Thasos many times.
Moreover, it is not the shortest nor a cheap trip as ferries could be considered expensive, given the last time I used them I paid 35 EUR ticket for two persons and a car. This is the one-way price.
In my humble opinion, it is worth it. Totally. So I guess I will be traveling to Thasos again.
Now let me reveal to you some of its marvels...
Plenty of small fishermen ports, sometimes next to lovely beaches.
A myriad of places to stop by the road and enjoy scenery views towards the sea.
A bunch of hidden luxurious beaches.
Small towns with cozy boardwalks where the famous and delicious Greek cuisine is served. At very affordable prices, given the high quality!
The traces of history that could be found are also very interesting and impressive, like for instance this abandoned building of an old mine, built on top of the hill. Next to the port...
Beautiful stone streets and my shadow selfie, heheh.
Yes, I am a sucker for architecture. Here the architecture is a mixture of Mediterranean and Balkan influences. That house below is available for renting, with the advantages of a high-elevated sea view and the crisp mountain clear air.
There are some unique art installations and locations. Some charged with invisible energy.
Probably one of the most iconic places of Thasos is this nature wonder, the cave sea pool at the Southern side of the island where people looking for more adrenaline go jumping.
Nature here is rich and beautiful. The climate is hot but surrounded by sea waters, the plants survive the heat, sometimes burning summers.
Exploring up the higher, mountain part of the island is also very rewarding to me, in terms of capturing images.
Also, I highly recommend the local jams that are sold in the small shops of the mountain villages. Not expensive and extremely sweet :)
Yes, I just love browsing Greek villages!
This is so typical for Greece. Wooden electrical street pole with staplers left by the hundreds of announcements...
The charm of the most affordable and convenient local transport.
Here and there, local street art.
As the island isn't so big, it is possible to shoot the sunrise in the morning and then at the evening, attend to the sunset too.
I hope you will all agree that the sunsets by the sea are always majestic. I so much love being present to these magical moments!
Relaxing on the balcony of the room, watching the sea, having a drink and reflecting. There is always time to do that. And I always do...
