Beach Time!

Who says beach trip? Come with us to the south eastern coast of Trinidad to Manzanilla Beach where the sun, sea and sand beckons! We encountered something truly amazing along the way though, I would say on the scale of Biblical proportions. It was so intrusive that we almost had to turn back!

You can see the coast stretching northwards for miles!

Along the Way

So the last few times we went to this beach around the same time of day, there was no traffic nor was there any difficulty of any sort to get there. This time however we caught up with some traffic that was moving very slowly. There was some sort of commotion on the streets as pedestrians seemed perturbed for some reason or the other. It was a national holiday (Independence) anyway so we paid no heed to the people outside of the car. Getting passed the populated area, all of a sudden this little locust landed inside of the vehicle, then I heard the driver exclaim, "LOOK". To my astonishment, when I looked up and outside, I could not see the sky, nor could I see what was to either side of the car! There were locusts EVERYWHERE!

The image does no justice to how this was in real life. They were above, below and to all sides! It was surely a magnificent site. They seemed to be migrating or something but this had never happened before in Trinidad. Luckily I had my camera and decided to take some pictures of the scenario but only later on when we got passed the area where the majority of the insects were flying around.

It looked like we were driving through rain or thick fog and it felt like the apocalypse was nigh! We drove on for miles and the numbers dissipated as we went along. As long as the beach was fine we would be too! It's just like Trinidadians to ignore the troubles and party on.

Beach!

Finally! After going through the literal apocalypse, it was time to relax and unwind! When we got there the sun was out and the wind blew refreshingly and made you feel excited to be alive!

From where we were, because of the coastline geometry, we could see the outline of the eastern coast for miles!

There were rocks placed along the shore to prevent erosion and they provided confortable non sandy seating.

Caught this fellow taking a nap! Probably stressed out by the locust invasion.

A Walk

Before bathing, we decided to take a walk along the coastline to see if we saw anything interesting.

I loved how the trees and the sky looked here.

I managed to find a bee playing around some coconuts on the ground. He looked so awesome doing his bee duties!

We came across an area with no rocks and I think the shore looks so much better but you could see the toll the sea had taken on the coastline.

I also aw these two trees that looked like they were inseparable best friends!

My friend and her cousin who almost had a close call with the water!

You can literally see the amount of erosion, woah!

Picking up sea shells by the sea shore was a great hobby of mine! The sand was pervaded by them. So many beautiful colours and patterns.

After adventuring, we decided to head back and take a dip. The water was expected to be chilly but it was surprisingly warm. The waves were mildly rough and that made it all the more fun to play in! I only wished I had my boogie board because the conditions were just perfect for body surfing!

Beach time is always relaxing as much as it is fun! I really enjoyed this run especially because of the locust plague that we ran into. I have never in my life experienced such a thing and was quite grateful that i could catch it on camera! Let's hope its not a sign of some unbalanced ecosystem or worst yet, THE END OF THE WORLD!
