One of the things that some people include in their travel budget is a section for gifts. If you have ever gone on a trip, you know that taking a small souvenir for each of your loved ones can translate into a large amount of money, depending on what you want to buy. And everything gets even more difficult when you walk into a gift shop and see that there are so many cute things: you better manage your resources well to look good with everyone you love 😅.
Una de las cosas que algunas personas incluyen en su presupuesto de viaje es un apartado para regalos. Si alguna vez has ido de viaje sabes que llevar un pequeño souvenir para cada uno de tus seres queridos puede traducirse en una gran cantidad de dinero, dependiendo de lo que desees comprar. Y todo se vuelve aún más difícil cuando entras en una tienda de regalos y ves que hay tantas cosas lindas: será mejor que administres bien tus recursos para quedar bien con todos los que quieras 😅.
When we were returning from our winter holidays in the north of the province of Córdoba, we made a stop in the city of Villa Carlos Paz to spend the night and of course we took the opportunity to walk around a bit. Our main idea that afternoon was to get to the Chairlift Complex, one of the main attractions in this area. The chairlift takes you to the top of one of the mountains in the area and from there you can have a panoramic view of the city. In July, this round trip, with some free time to walk on the hill, cost 3,000 ARS (5 USD), a not that high cost for a walk that will not be repeated very often. BUT there were so many people lining up that we didn't do it and also my aunts have vertigo so double reason to leave it for another time 😅.
Cuando estabamos volviendo de nuestras vacaciones de invierno en el norte de la provincia de Córdoba, hicimos una parada en la ciudad de Villa Carlos Paz para pasar la noche y por supuesto aprovechamos para pasear un poco. Nuestra idea principal de esa tarde era llegar hasta el Complejo Aerosilla, una de las atracciones principales de esta zona. La aerosilla te lleva hasta lo más alto de una de las montañas de la zona y desde ahí podes tener una vista panorámica de la ciudad. En julio, este paseo de ida y vuelta, con algo de tiempo libre para pasear sobre el cerro costaba 3000 ARS (5 USD), un costo no tal elevado para un paseo que no se repetirá muy seguido. PERO había tanta gente haciendo fila que no lo hicimos y además mis tías tienen vértigo así que doble razón para dejarlo para otra ocasión 😅.
Right in front of this complex there was a small path to climb another part of the hill, called Cerro de la Cruz. This was a free walk up the stairs that would take about 40 minutes and we thought it would be a good option since we didn't go up the chairlift, but guess what?: the ascent was only until 5pm and we arrived at 5.15pm so we couldn't get through . Maybe it would have been good to check the time on the Internet to hurry us up a bit, but we didn't imagine that on such a touristy date they would cut the tour so quickly 😗.
Justo enfrente del este complejo había un pequeño sendero para subir a otra parte del cerro, llamado Cerro de la Cruz. Este era una caminata gratuita por escalera que llevaría masomenos 40 minutos y pensamos que sería una buena opción ante la no-subida a la aerosilla, pero ¿adivinen qué?: el ascenso solo era hasta las 17hs y llegamos 17.15h así que no pudimos pasar. Tal vez hubiese sido bueno chequear la hora en Internet para apurarnos un poco, pero tampoco nos imaginamos que en una fecha tan turísitica ellos cortarían el paseo tan rápido 😗.
Exhausted the two options of fun things to do, we only had to walk a bit at the base of the hill to justify the trip there. This place was quite crowded because there were some small restaurants and gift shops, where you could buy some souvenirs from your trip. Since we couldn't do anything else, we went in to see what trinkets they sold 😅.
Agotadas las dos opciones de cosas divertidas para hacer, solo nos quedó pasear un poco por la base del cerro como para justificar el viaje hasta ahí. Este lugar estaba bastante concurrido porque habían algunos pequeños restaurantes y tiendas de regalos, en donde podías adquirir algún recuerdo de tu viaje. Ya que no pudimos hacer nada más, entramos a ver que chucherías vendían 😅.
On the sidewalk and in a large display window to attract attention, this store offered a variety of elements to make barbecue, one of the foods that you have to try if you come to Argentina. Cooking roast meat is an art for some, and in this business you could buy grills, knives, spatulas and also cutting boards. They also sold small "disco pots", which are used by putting hot coals below and in them you can cook stews or the famous "chorizo a la pomarola". All these elements are usually somewhat expensive because they are durable, so if you want to make a good barbecue you need some initial investment. For example, just a board for meat was 10 USD, while a small pot was almost 40 USD 😃.
En la vereda y en un gran aparador para llamar la atención, esta tienda ofrecía diversidad de elementos para hacer asado, una de las comidas que tenes que probar si venías a Argentina. Cocinar carne asada en todo un arte para algunos, y en este negocio podías comprar parillas, cuchillos, espátulas y también tablas para cortar la carne. También vendían pequeñas "ollas disco", las cuales se usan poniendo carbón caliente abajo y en ellas se pueden cocinar guisos o el famoso "chorizo a la pomarola". Todos estos elementos suelen ser algo costosos porque son duraderos, así que si querés hacer un buen asado necesitas algo de inversión inicial. Por ejemplo, solo una tabla para carne costaba 10 USD, mientras que una olla pequeña estaba en casi 40 USD 😃.
Once inside the store, this place had a large makeup section and small items for personal care. These makeups are usually quite cheap, honestly they are not from the best brands, but seeing them there and all together creates a need you had not thought of before. It happens to me that I see these little things and immediately want some, so I ended up buying a red lipstick for 2 USD (unnecessary but necessary) 😅.
Ya dentro de la tienda, este lugar contaba con una amplia sección de maquillaje y pequeños elementos para el cuidado personal. Estos maquillajes suelen ser bastante económicos, honestamente no son de las mejores marcas, pero verlos ahí y todos juntos te crean una necesidad no pensada antes. A mí me pasa que veo estas cositas y enseguida quiero alguna, así que terminé comprando un labial rojo por 2 USD (innecesario pero necesario) 😅.
And something that definitely cannot be missing in a gift shop in Argentina are the elements to drink mate. This drink is the most popular for us and for that you need a container for mate, a bombilla, two containers for yerba and sugar, a thermos for hot water and a bag to transport everything. Of course there is a whole design industry related to this, mainly focused on the mate container, which is what one usually gives someone as a gift. The mate containers can be made of wood, glass, plastic, resin, even pumpkin. The imagination to decorate a mate is infinite, so it's just a matter of choosing one of your liking and that's it. If you have seen some of my other publications, you will have seen that I have my traveling mate which is made of wood and painted pink with a white kitten. I love that mate and I don't think I'll change it any time soon. In this store, the cheapest mate cost 1.5USD, extending this price up to 5 USD depending on the design 😃.
Y algo que definitivamente no puede faltar en una tienda de regalos en Argentina son los elementos para tomar mate. Esta bebida es la más popular para nosotros y para eso se necesita un recipiente para mate, una bombilla, dos contenedores para yerba y azúcar, un termo para agua caliente y un bolso para transportarlo todo. Por supuesto hay toda una industria de diseño relacionada a esto, principalmente enfocado en el recipiente del mate que es lo que usualmente uno regala a alguien. Los recipientes del mate pueder ser de madera, vidrio, plástico, resina, incluso calabaza. La imaginación para decorar un mate es infinita, así que solo es cuestión de elegir uno de tu gusto y ya. Si han visto algunas otras publicaciones mías, habran visto que yo tengo mi mate viajero que es de madera y pintado de rosa con un gatito blanco. Amo ese mate y no creo cambiarlo a la brevedad. En esta tienda, el mate más económico costaba 1.5USD, extendiendo este precio hasta 5 USD dependiendo el diseño 😃.
Something interesting that has become fashionable in recent times is a compact version of matte. This container is called "ready mate" or "self-priming mate" and summarizes all the elements for drinking mate in one place. These devices have a hot water container at the bottom and a space with a light bulb at the top to place the herb and sugar. Then, all you have to do is load the water and sucking the mate that is already primed. This version of the mate is useful if is mate for only one person, or if you don't have a place to carry all the things I mentioned before. I'm not a big fan of the "ready mate" but I still have one of these that I use sometimes when I want to prepare everything quickly. At this store, these were 2.5 USD 😃.
Algo interesante que se ha puesto de moda en el último tiempo es una versión compacta de mate. Este recipiente se llama "mate listo" o "mate auto-cebante" y resume todos los elementos para tomar mate en un solo lugar. Estos dispositivos cuentan con un recipiente de agua caliente abajo y arriba tienen un espacio con bombilla para colocar la yerba y el azúcar. Entonces, lo único que hay que hacer es cargar el agua y succionando ya se ceba el mate. Esta versión del mate es útil si solo quiere tomar una persona, o si no tenes lugar para llevar todas las cosas que mencioné antes. Yo no soy muy fan del "mate listo" pero igualmente tengo uno que lo uso a veces cuando quiero preparar todo rápido. En esta tienda, estos costaban 2.5 USD 😃.
After all the trips I make and so regularly, my family knows that I don't bring gifts for almost anyone. What I usually buy is a box of alfajores to distribute and that's all, but they are always satisfied with that. I really liked this gift shop, there were a lot of beautiful things to see and at least I bought a new lipstick. Which of all did you like the most? Después de todos los viajes que hago y tan regularmente, mi familia sabe que no llevo regalos para casi nadie. Lo que suelo comprar es una caja de alfajores para repartir y eso es todo, pero ellos siempre quedan conformes con eso.
