This time, nine months of sweet waiting had to pass before I could make a post again updating how everything is going with my #travelgoal. We Argentines have a vast and beautiful country, and exploring it all requires a large investment of time and of course, money. But this is a challenge that I definitely want to complete: knowing at least one place in the 23 provinces of my country Argentina is not easy at all, but for the moment I think I'm doing quite well. Very close to the Andes Mountains, to the west of my country, I was able to visit the province of San Juan, which became #16 on my list. Hope you like it ❤️.
Esta vez, nueve meses de dulce espera tuvieron que pasar para que pudiera volver a hacer un post actualizando como va todo con mi #travelgoal. Nosotros los argentinos tenemos un país extenso y hermoso, y recorrerlo todo requiere una gran inversión de tiempo y por supuesto, dinero. Pero este es un desafio que definitivamente quiero completar: conocer al menos un lugar de las 23 provincias de mi país Argentina no es nada fácil, pero por el momento creo que lo estoy haciendo bastante bien. Muy cerca de la Cordillera de los Andes, al oeste de mi país, pude conocer la provincia de San Juan, la cual se transformó en la #16 de mi lista. Espero que les guste ❤️.
This trip is very special for me for several reasons: it's the first time I have traveled alone, to a province that I have not visited before and without an exact return date. After traveling so much with friends and family, the idea of traveling alone kept ringing in my head and I knew that at some point I had to make it happen. Almost as if it were a sign, one day in July I saw a post on Facebook about a job exchange position for accommodation in a hostel in the province of San Juan. Impulsively I knew that this would be a good opportunity to travel while saving a little, and since I have all my time available to take my economic activity with me anywhere, I began to materialize the trip little by little 😃.
Este viaje es muy especial para mí por varias razones: es la primera vez que viajo sola, a una provincia que no visité antes y sin una fecha exacta de regreso. Después de viajar tanto con amigos y familia, la idea de viajar sola quedó resonando en mi cabeza y supe que en algún momento tenía que concretarla. Casi como si fuera una señal, un día en el mes de Julio ví una publicación en Facebook sobre un puesto de intercambio de trabajo por alojamiento en un hostel en la provincia de San Juan. Impulsivamente supe que esta seria una buena oportunidad para viajar ahorrando un poco, y como tengo todo mi tiempo disponible para llevar mi actividad económica conmigo a donde sea, empecé a materializar el viaje de a poco 😃.

1200 km desde Ciudad de Buenos Aires hasta la ciudad de San Juan
It's easy to say now, but in these two months that passed from that day to now I had a lot of mixed feelings. My main fears at that moment were the money to pay for the trip and the possibility of feeling alone in an unknown place. As for money, since I completed the exchange I started saving as much as I could, and also dipped into some of my Savings Wallet savings. Since last year I have been saving with the Savings Club modality, and that allowed me to have enough HBD reserved in case of any spontaneous plan. Of the more than 600 HBD that I saved last year, I only spent 400 HBD on my trip to the province of Santa Cruz, so I allocated the 200 HBD that I had left over as the initial budget for this trip 😃.
Ahora es fácil decirlo, pero en estos dos meses que pasaron desde ese día hasta acá tuve un montón de sentimientos encontrados. Mis principales miedos en ese momento eran el dinero para solventar el viaje y la posibilidad de sentirme sola en un lugar desconocido. En cuanto al dinero, desde que concreté el intercambio empecé a ahorrar lo más que pude, y también recurrí a un poco de mis ahorros de la Savings Wallet. Desde el año pasado que estoy ahorrando con la modalidad del Club de Los Ahorradores, y eso me permitió tener suficientes HBD reservados en caso de algún plan espontáneo. De los más de 600 HBD que ahorré el año pasado, solo gasté 400 HBD en mi viaje a la provincia de Santa Cruz, así que los 200 HBD que me sobraron los destiné como presupuesto inicial de este paseo 😃.
As for feeling alone during the trip, well, I couldn't know that until I was at the hostel I chose. But before that, my family and friends were in charge of supporting me in this decision to walk. Even though I wasn't going that far or for that long (only 1200 km, supposedly for at least a month), everyone I love contributed to my cause by giving me small gifts or providing support. They know that I like to travel and that continuing to visit the country is one of my greatest goals, so with all their love they accompanied me in this until the last minute 😃.
En cuanto a sentirme sola durante el viaje, bueno, eso no podría saberlo hasta que estuviera en el hostel que elegí. Pero antes de eso, mi familia y amigos se encargaron de apoyarme en esta decisión de paseo. Si bien no me iba tan lejos o por tanto tiempo (solo 1200 km, supuestamente por al menos un mes), todas las personas que quiero contribuyeron con mi causa dandome pequeños regalos o brindandome apoyo. Ellos saben que me gusta viajar y que seguir visitando el país es uno de mis más grandes objetivos, así que con todo su amor me acompañaron en esto hasta el último minuto 😃.
From the moment I crossed the boarding gate, all those fears I had until then disappeared and I felt completely fulfilled for accomplishing what I had set out to do. Everything was coming together very well, I had a beautiful flight and the excitement of seeing the first mountains from above made me feel that everything was worth it. My trip does not have an exact return date because I can choose until when I want to continue working at the hostel, but with everything I researched that there is to do, I will probably stay here for quite some time 😅.
Desde que crucé la puerta de embarque, todos esos miedos que tuve hasta el momento desaparecieron y me sentí completamente realizada por estar cumpliendo lo que me había propuesto. Todo se estaba materializando muy bien, tuve un vuelo hermoso y la emoción de ver las primeras montañas desde lo alto me hicieron sentir que todo valió la pena. Mi viaje no tiene una fecha exacta de regreso porque yo puedo elegir hasta cuando quiero seguir trabajando en el hostel, pero con todo lo que investigué que hay para hacer, seguramente me quede bastante por aquí 😅.
The ticket to get to this province cost me 22,500 ARS (approx. 32 USD). This time I couldn't travel on one of the low-cost airlines since this destination is not as popular as others, so only the main aviation company in Argentina (and therefore, the most expensive) comes here. As I go down my list of provinces to visit, I end up with the least crowded or most expensive destinations, so it becomes more and more challenging to get to them. But I'm so determined that I want to see all the places, no matter what, I'm going to be there at some point 😃.
El pasaje para llegar hasta esta provincia me costó 22.500 ARS (32 USD aprox). Esta vez no pude viajar en una de las aerolíneas low cost ya que este destino no es tan popular como otros, así que solo llega hasta acá la principal empresa de aviación en Argentina (y por lo tanto, la más costosa). A medida que voy avanzando en mi lista de provincias a visitar, me van quedando los destinos menos concurridos o los más caros, por lo que cada vez se vuelve más y más desafiante llegar hasta ellos. Pero estoy tan decida que quiero ver todos los lugares que sea como sea, voy a estar ahí en algún momento 😃.
The neighborhood where the hostel I chose is located is in the center of the City of San Juan, the capital of the province. The good thing is that in this part the different bus lines that take you everywhere are very close, or even long-distance buses to go further. By exchanging work time for accommodation, I am saving a lot of money so surely all of that will be used for excursions and walks in the most beautiful places I can find. The deal we have with the owners is three days of work for a whole week of accommodation, so I have plenty of time to go explore the surroundings 😃.
El barrio en el que se encuentra el hostel que elegí está en el centro de la Ciudad de San Juan, la capital de la provincia. Lo bueno es que en esta parte estan muy cerca las distintas lineas de colectivos que te llevan a todos lados, o incluso micros de larga distancia para poder ir más lejos. Al estar intercambiando tiempo de trabajo por alojamiento, estoy ahorrando bastante dinero así que seguramente todo eso sea destinado a excursiones y paseos en los lugares más lindos que encuentre. El trato que tenemos con los dueños es de tres días de trabajo por toda una semana de alojamiento, así que tengo bastante tiempo para ir a recorrer los alrededores 😃.
My first day at the hostel was very warm and friendly. That afternoon the owners welcomed me and gave me all the instructions on places to visit and also about work. They seemed like super nice people to me and that ended up overcoming the other fear I had about feeling alone in an unknown place. That day they recommended that I go out and visit the shopping center that was only a few blocks away, so taking advantage of the last hours of light I walked to one of the busiest squares with the city's cathedral 😃.
Mi primer día en el hostel fue muy cálido y amigable. Esa tarde me recibieron los dueños y me dieron todas las indicaciones de lugares a visitar y también sobre el trabajo. Me parecieron personas super amables y eso terminó de superar el otro miedo que tenía sobre sentirme sola en un lugar desconocido. Ese día me recomendaron salir a visitar un poco el centro comercial que solo quedaba a unas cuadras, así que aprovechando las últimas horas de luz fui caminando hasta una de las plazas más concurridas con la catedral de la ciudad 😃.
Although religion is not among my main interests, I always like to visit churches for their structure and architecture. In addition, this cathedral has a viewpoint that could be accessed for free to contemplate the entire city from above 😃. What I also liked is that although it is not one of the most famous provinces to come on vacation, tourism is well developed. In the center there are guided tours all the time for those who want to know the history, and also cheap buses that for a small fee take you to the most beautiful landscapes ❤️.
Si bien la religión no está dentro de mis principales intereses, siempre me gusta recorrer las iglesias por su estructura y arquitectura. Además, esta catedral tiene un mirador al cuál se podía acceder gratis para contemplar toda la ciudad desde lo alto 😃. Lo que también me gustó es que si bien no es una de las provincias más famosas para venir de vacaciones, el turismo lo tienen bien desarrollado. En el centro hay visitas guiadas todo el tiempo para quienes quieran conocer la historia, y también colectivos económicos que por una pequeña tarifa te acercan hasta los paisajes más lindos ❤️.
According to what I was able to investigate so far, this city is relatively new since in 1944 it was almost completely destroyed due to an earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter very close to this area. On that occasion, the earthquake lasted only a few seconds in the night but it was enough for almost everything to collapse and the city to have to start from scratch. Due to the number of victims and material damage, this event was described as the most destructive due to natural causes that our country has had so far 😶.
De acuerdo a lo que pude investigar por ahora, esta ciudad es relativamente nueva ya que en 1944 se destruyó casi por completo debido a un terremoto de 7 grados en la escala de Ritcher, con su epicentro muy cercano a esta zona. En esa oportunidad, el terremoto duró solo unos segundos de la noche pero fue suficiente para que casi todo se derrumbe y la ciudad tenga que comenzar desde cero. Debido a la cantidad de víctimas y daños materiales, este evento fue calificado como el más destructivo por causas naturales que tuvo nuestro país hasta ahora 😶.
Currently, this city has a lot of seismic activity and that is why all its buildings are prepared for that, being mostly low houses except for a few hotels and buildings with a maximum of 13 floors (quite risky, don't you think?). They say that the last large earthquake recorded here was in 2021 but that there are small movements every day, almost imperceptible or very far from the center of the city. At the moment I couldn't notice any and I hope it stays that way because I think I would be quite scared if everything started shaking 😅.
Actualmente, esta ciudad tiene bastante actividad sísmica y es por eso que todas sus edificaciones estan preparadas para eso, siendo casas bajas en su mayoría a excepción de unos pocos hoteles y edificios con un máximo de trece pisos (bastante arriesgado, ¿no creen?). Dicen que el último sismo grande registrado acá fue en el 2021 pero que hay pequeños movimientos todos los días, casi imperceptibles o muy lejanos a lo que es el centro de la ciudad. Por el momento no pude notar ninguno y espero que siga así porque creo que me asustaría bastante si todo empieza a temblar 😅.
This trip began on September 6 and for the moment, September 26, I'm still here and having a great time in this beautiful city of San Juan. Thinking from afar, all those things that made me doubt whether to come or not seem like nothing to me: I was able to meet good people and so far, I have seen a lot of beautiful places that fit well into my budget. This trip is being very relaxing and I'm enjoying it a lot, even more than I thought. For now, I can conclude that I'm very happy for having followed my instinct and without a doubt this encourages me to use this exchange modality to continue traveling more and for longer in my beautiful country. Este viaje comenzó el día 6 de septiembre y por el momento, 26 de septiembre, sigo por acá y pasándola muy bien en esta linda ciudad de San Juan. Pensando a lo lejos, todas esas cosas que me hacían dudar de si venir o no me parecen nada: pude encontrarme con gente buena y hasta ahora, conocí un montón de lugares hermosos que se ajustaron bien a mi presupuesto. Este viaje está siendo muy relajado y lo estoy disfrutando un montón, incluso más de lo que pensé. Por ahora, puedo concluir en que estoy muy contenta por haber seguido mi instinto y sin dudas esto me anima a usar esta modalidad de intercambio para seguir viajando más y por más tiempo en mi hermoso país.
