On Wednesday 24th March I walked from Dogashima along the hiking course which follows the coast north to Tago town.
This was a beautiful route, full of wonderful scenery, a marvelous, absolutely calm sea, and the route itself is not so difficult. The main difficulty was trying to tear my eyes away from the lovely surroundings.
The route is pretty simple. I followed the road up the hill from Dogashima, with a quick stop off at the Isthmus near by, which was unfortunately underwater at the time, but which produced some nice wave patterns from two sets of waves running contrary to each other.
Next was a little look around the beautiful beach at Futo, at the start of the hiking course proper. This beach has some interesting crags sticking out of the beach itself. Formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. There's also some wonderful rock pools to check out, teeming with sea life.
The course follows the coast, undulating along, past cherry blossoms and under waves of singing birds encouraged by the spring warmth. Sometimes you are near the sea and sometimes you rise above, looking down on the wonderful vista. The inland mountainous view as well as the view along the coast.
The hike is surrounded by natural beauty and the spring blossoms heightened the experience all the more.
Eventually after a couple of hours I emerged in the small harbour town of Tago. There are a few shops and restaurants here where you can have lunch. I bought a bento from the small supermarket and headed for the next walk which would take up my afternoon....
Here are some pictures of the morning hike...
