There are many significant sights in Balta. Most are of historical significance. In this list, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Holy Assumption Cathedral) occupies an honorable place.

This majestic Cathedral towers over the city. It can be seen from anywhere in the Baltics. It is located on the street. Lomonosov Moscow State University.

History

The cathedral was consecrated in 1915. Its name was in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. The history of the Cathedral is somewhat tragic. After the construction was completed, it was closed several times.

The first time it was closed in 1931. For a long ten years, there were no services here. At the very beginning of the Romanian occupation, in 1941, the Cathedral was opened and restored.

The last time it was closed in 1964. The official reason was the construction, on the territory of the Cathedral, of a boarding school. This is the year 1962 - 1964.

From this moment a long time of non-existence comes. Believers were able to return the cathedral only in 1988. After that, the restoration work began. Now the Cathedral is completely restored.

Yes, current repairs are carried out annually. But this is an ordinary life.

In the summer of 2006, the relics of St. Theodosius (Levitsky) of Balti were returned to the Cathedral. Let me remind you that on October 20, 2009, a solemn liturgy was held by the metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Vladimir. At the liturgy was the glorification of Theodosius in the face of the Saints. At the moment the relics of the saint are in the Holy Assumption Monastery in the Baltic.

The service in the Cathedral and the monastery is conducted by Archimandrite Alexis. His appointment - the administrator of the Balinese diocese, Alexy received in 2012. Now his title sounds like Archimandrite Alexy Baltsky and Ananyevsky.

Impression

No wonder they say that the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin in Balta is considered one of the most beautiful church buildings in the region. It is built in the Pseudo-Russian style. The design is dominated by three colors: blue, white and gold.

As soon as you enter Balta, the look immediately stops at the cathedral. From a long distance it seems small and, as it were, a toy. But when you enter the territory of the Cathedral, the greatness of the building is simply amazing.

You feel that unique atmosphere of comfort, which is inherent in many church buildings. Despite the fact that near there is a busy street, the noise of cars can not be heard and you do not notice.

I have long wanted to attend the service in this Cathedral. But alas, it does not work yet. That's the last time, when I came to Balta, I could not get into the Cathedral itself. The floor was painted there. In this regard, this time I show you the external beauty of the structure. I will try to come to Balta on August 28 and visit the divine service. If I succeed, then I'll tell you how it happened. I will try to make some photos of the interior of the Cathedral.
