A few words about the history of this amazing square
In the good old days there was a military parade ground. This square was called quite simply and prosaically: "Platz-parade". Here they were engaged in drill training and reviews of the troops. In the early 1840s, the military was sent to Cathedral Square.
In 1842, the square was occupied by the shopping arcade. It is worth noting that the project of the space itself was created by the famous architect Toricelli. There was a fountain in the middle of the square. By the way, pay attention to the fact that the top is decorated with a sculpture of a girl who sits on a pebble, covered with an umbrella.
In those days, Ludwig Leclair was the gardener. It is he who is the very person who decided to change the appearance of the square. If you look at the location of the alleys from above, then it will be clearly seen that they have the appearance of the St.Andrew's Cross.
