Mayaki Village, territorially owned by the Belyaevsky District, is an important strategic settlement. The village has a long history.
Lighthouses at the dawn of their existence
The first written mention of the village dates back to 1421. Then the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas built the castle Mayak-Karaul here. It was a customs and border fortification. This place was not chosen in vain. At the mouth of the Dniester, at the place of swimming both along the river and along the estuary, with access to the Black Sea. At this place was a lighthouse, which gave the name Grizzly.
By the way, the castle was mentioned at the time when information appeared about the port and castle of Hadzhibey, which was located on the site of our Odessa.
A little later, in the 16th century, the Turks destroyed the fortified territory to the ground. In its place, warehouses were built from the forest, which was rafted along the Dniester.
In 1862, the lighthouses received the status of the provincial city of Odessa district of the Kherson province. At that time, near the settlement there was a large ferry across the Dniester. At that time there were 4,575 people in the city. 1897 census. Then, Russians (62.6%), Ukrainians (20.6%) and Jews (14.1%) lived in the city. The ancient settlement of Mayaki was slightly lower than the current village. There are the remains of a crossing, a church and several other stone buildings. But to whom they belong is unknown. This is due to the fact that excavations have not yet been carried out in this place. The site itself was located on a trade road leading to Ackerman.
In addition to the crossing, there was a river pier, which played an important role in the transportation of goods from the Dniester to the Odessa port. In the 1860s, they planned to build a railway to Tiraspol. But still it was built from the Razdelnaya station.
The lighthouses did not lose their strategic importance under the Soviet Union. In the 1950s, a bridge over the Dniester was built here. It was included in the trade route connecting Odessa with the south of the region.

Transfiguration Cathedral
