The princes of Lubomir, who were part of the largest and most influential nobility of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. According to local residents and data from other sources, it was this Polish family who founded the city of Balta (Odessa region). They played a significant role in the foundation, formation and development of the city.
Today, let's talk about the square of Prince Yuri Lubomirsky. It is located opposite the famous fire department. Now here is equipped with a beautiful square. The back of the park rests on the facade of the Pedagogical School.
How to get there
Unfortunately in Baltu it is better to go by bus. Yes, there are trains and electric trains. But the station itself is 5 kilometers from the city. It is called Belino.
Accordingly, the route through the city will be built from the bus station. From the territory of the bus station we leave to the central street. I prefer to move to the center through a beautiful bridge. It is located in the corner of the station square. Through this bridge we go out to the gates of the city market. We pass by to the crossroads.
We pass to other side of street and we rise along the street. First, we will see the memorial of Glory. Leave it on the left hand and move on. Right in front of us will open a beautiful view of the park, built by Prince Yu. Lubomirski in the early 18th century.
After the death of Yuri, Prince Sviatoslav ennobled the square. Opposite the square we see the church of St. Stanislaus, which was founded by Stanislav.
Square today
The main attraction of the square can be considered a monument to the victims of the Holodomor of 1933. Pay attention to the appearance of this monument. We see that the monument consists, as it were, of 2 parts. But, if you look closely, in his "heart" is made the Cross, which divides the monument into 2 parts.
At the far end of the square there is a cozy and shady playground.
It is decorated with a curious structure that resembles a cascading fountain. Unfortunately, after I examined this structure in detail, no elements were found that should throw water jets.
It turns out that this structure is more suitable for the name "Chalice". Rather, Two bowls.
Yes, Balta, this is a very interesting small town that keeps a lot of secrets. Despite the fact that he is somewhat younger than Kotovsk (Balta was founded in 1797, and Kotovsk - 1779), significant events took place here. At what, not only for the region, but also for three states: Ukraine, Turkey and Poland. And the Jewish people have something to tell for Balta.
P.S. from the editorial board of the community: in the future, we will consider in more detail not only the history, but also the legends of this locality in particular, and the region as a whole. The Balt district is rich in interesting sights and memorable places.
