Residents of the city of Balta do not forget their history. They try to restore every historical moment. In this connection, the Memorial of Glory is not just a separate territory, where a monument is located in honor of those who died during the Great Patriotic War.
Balta, this is a city that suffered from the hands of the fascists almost more than all. Many historians believe that only Odessa has suffered more seriously.
Balta and the Great Patriotic War
Since the beginning of the occupation, power has passed to the Romanians. One of the largest Jewish ghettos was established here. Let me remind you that the ghetto, this is the forcible transfer of Jews to certain territories. That is, in the residential regions zones were created where Jews were taken from different cities and towns.
Balta was not chosen by chance. Here lived a large number of Jews. According to some reports, during the war, more than 2.5 thousand Jews were concentrated here. They were brought here from all of Bessarabia and Odessa.
Near the city, in the Borodavsky Yar, more than 1,000 representatives of the Jewish nation were killed.
Balta was liberated by the 53rd Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front. This significant event occurred on March 29, 1944.
Memorial of Glory
Here remembered all. There are monuments and memorial plates to all the defenders of our Motherland. Citizens of the city and local historians bit by bit reconstruct the events of these three years. They remember all those who died defending their country.
Each of us can personally get acquainted with the names of those who, without regretting their lives, defended the population of the Odessa region. The soldiers understood that they should do everything possible and even more to liberate their native land from the fascist invaders.
Pay attention to the monument itself. He personifies a fighter against fascism, which stops the invaders: "Wait, you can not go on!". Near the monument there is a board and an eternal flame. You read the words written by the person's hand. They take for the soul no less than the stories of eyewitnesses of those terrible times.
It is a pity that modern realities do not allow us to kindle eternal fire forever, without extinguishing it for a second! We must remember the exploit of our ancestors. Thanks to their heroism and self-sacrifice, we are now alive and enjoy all the benefits of civilization.
In the future, we will continue to talk not only about the heroic past of our Motherland. We will remember the life of real people who lived in those terrible times. We will go through all the memorable places in our region. Subscribe to our blog and stay tuned.
