Our long-suffering Motherland experienced a lot of difficult minutes. Our ancestors confronted various foreign enemies. On the territory of the Odessa region, during the Great Patriotic War, at almost every step, bloody battles took place.
Now in the north of the Odessa region a peculiar relay race is held, which many people call: “On the front-line roads”.
Brief history of battles for Balta
1944 was decisive for our region. After the Soviet troops defeated the Korsun-Shevchenko group of fascists, the Uman-Batoshan operation began. The troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front went on the offensive. Konev wrote that it was one of the greatest operations that could be carried out in the most difficult conditions.
In the direction of Balta, the forces of the 53rd army, commanded by Lieutenant-General Managarov, moved. The division included such divisions as 25 Red Banner Sinelnikovskaya Infantry (commanded by Hero of the USSR, General Krivolapov) and 94 Guards Infantry (under the command of the Hero of the USSR, Guards Colonel Shostatsky).
March 22 fighters of the 25th division crossed the borders of the Balt region. The first they released with. Shlyakhov. From March 23 to March 25 our forces advanced to Balta. March 26, the city was taken to the ring.
March 27 began the struggle for each part of the city. We acted against our forces: part of the SS division “Dead Head”, the 11th Panzer Division and non-commissioned officers of the German occupying school.
Despite the desperate resistance of the fascists, at 10 am on March 29 the city was completely liberated.
The memory of those difficult times
Locals did not stand aside. They helped the fighters with all they could. Spring off-road did not allow quickly regroup and deliver the necessary projectiles, weapons, drag guns, cooked food and so on. Residents of the Baltsky district and the city raised 135,000 rubles to the victory fund.
In total, 12,013 inhabitants of the Balt region fought on the fronts. In the battle killed 4,020 fighters. Awarded 4829 people. 7 fighters of the city and district became Heroes of the USSR. 3 fighters became full gentlemen of the Order of Glory. Recall their names: Belous, Shulyachenko and Motrobai.
Liberators dedicated
March 29 in the city held a rally in honor of the 75 anniversary of the liberation of the city. The city authorities and local residents laid flowers at the Memorial of Glory. An excursion dedicated to the Petrel guerrilla unit was conducted at the local museum.
