The history of the Akkerman fortress dates back more than one century. Over the long years of existence, she has witnessed various events. Many of the bottom turned into real legends. In particular, among the 24 towers there are two with which various legends are associated. These are: Pushkin and Maiden’s towers.
Legend of the Pushkin Tower
The great poet Pushkin did inherit in Odessa and the region. He has visited many localities. In particular, when Pushkin descended on the platform of the city of Kotovsk, he uttered memorable words: “Well, dirt!”.
During the exile of Pushkin to Chisinau and Odessa, he still visited the Akkerman fortress. Yes, the government of the empire did not favor poets who openly expressed their thoughts. One fine and sunny day, military historian and lieutenant colonel Ivan Liprandi recovered to Akkerman fortress. He needed to solve several issues here. He invited Pushkin to keep him company. The poet did not refuse.
Pushkin spent only three days in the fortress. But during this time he managed to write a message to Ovid. It was this historical character that he recalled during his stay in the fortress. Here, as if every stone personified the exile of Ovid. One legend says that it was in Thira that Ovid was expelled. But for this we will talk at our other meeting. Historians believe that it was in one of the towers that the message was born. Accordingly, she received the name of the poet.
Legend of the Maiden Tower
People say that the Moldavian owner Alexander the Good had a beautiful and clever daughter Tamara. She grew up a beautiful and bright child. The good one was constantly on campaigns and practically did not visit the house. When his daughter became an adult, she began to engage in robbery.
Once, when Alexander was at home, Tamara asked her father to give her a certain amount of money for the construction of the monastery. He agreed and allocated the necessary amount. Then he called local residents for construction work. Himself turned around and dumped in the next, type, campaign. But the daughter decided that the fortress would be more attractive than the monastery. She quickly erected a fortification. The fortress became a real gangster’s nest. From the fortress, she raided cities and villages.
When Good returned home, he was horrified. Alexander could not believe it. That his own daughter became the leader of the robbers. He ordered her to be seized and imprisoned in the fortress itself. So that she could not escape, her father ordered that all entrances and exits be walled up. Since then, one of the towers of the Akkerman fortress began to be called the "Maiden".
These are far from all the legends with which the Fortress and its surroundings are shrouded. We will talk a lot for interesting aspects of life and history of our native land - Odessa region.
