For a long time we did not speak for the legends of Belgorod-Dniester in general, and the Akkerman fortress in particular. Today we’ll talk about the beautiful girl Paraskovey. About her divinity. But not only in terms of appearance. But, let's move from the “stove”.
"Paraskoveeva Krinichka"
In the immediate vicinity of the fortress there is a small chapel. Yes, there is only one age that makes you respond with respect. But we are interested in the source, which is located strictly in the middle of the chapel. This key with clean and always cold water is covered in an interesting legend.
Turks and Christianity
It's no secret that at one time these lands belonged to the Turks. Immediately after they conquered this land, they began to plant their faith in the locals. The Turks acted very cruelly. Pasha tried to impose Islam with fire and sword. But alas, all his efforts were in vain. People did not want to become apostates. They adamantly believed in the Christian God. Pasha was angry. But he could not do anything.
Legendary Paraskoveya
Once Pasha was told that a young lady lives in the village - Paraskoveya. She lived on the banks of the estuary. But she was far from respected for her beauty. She was wise beyond her years. Everyone listened to her opinion. Even gray-haired old men came to her for advice.
Pasha, learning about the influence of the girl on the local people, decided that she should be seized and forced to accept Islam. People, having learned that Paraskoveya accepted the Mohammedan faith, and themselves change their views.
The Janissaries complied with the order of the Pasha. They grabbed a young girl and brought to the fortress. Pasha offered her countless treasures, the situation in Istanbul, a beautiful and influential groom and so on. But all the benefits did not arouse interest in the girl. She did not want to change the faith of her ancestors. She did not become an apostate.
The angry Uzun Pasha ordered the Christian to be imprisoned. In the darkness and damp, she spent more than one month. But, despite all the hardships, she did not change her faith.
The furious pasha decided to deal with the young beauty. He could not forgive her for her pride. He could not show his weakness to his people. He was afraid that he would be laughed at for being defeated by the girl.
But, he did not have time to cross the threshold of the dungeon, as the unthinkable happened. The chains and chains fell. Paraskoveya turned out to be completely free. In the blink of an eye, she found herself outside the walls of the fortress!
Pasha, waking up in surprise, ordered the fugitive to be returned immediately. Janissaries rushed after Paraskovia. But no matter how they tried, they could not catch up. Suddenly, when the Janissaries came close, the girl looked around. At that moment she melted in the air. Well, and where the last time her foot stepped, he scored a clean and cold key.
Yes, that was God's sign. The key can be considered the personification of the spiritual and physical purity of a Christian.
So, no one can break the will of the Slav!
