Odessa is a multinational city. Here live representatives of different peoples. Accordingly, a variety of religious institutions function in the city. I want to talk about the Holy Trinity Cathedral. In the city it is called the Greek Cathedral. This church building is located at: Ekaterininskaya 55 A.
History
This building can be considered one of the oldest in the city. The first stone in the foundation of the cathedral was laid in 1795. This action was carried out by Metropolitan Gavriil of Yekaterinoslav.
In 1804, the Archbishop of Novorossiysk Athanasius laid the Holy Trinity Church for the Greeks. After 4 years, it was consecrated in honor of the Holy Trinity. Religious action was made by Archbishop Ekaterinoslavsky and Taurian Plato.
In 1890, one of the first Sunday schools in Odessa was opened on the territory of the church. It functions to this day.
In the period from 1821 to 1851 years. in the temple housed the relics of the Holy Martyr Gregory V. They were at the North wall.
In 1840, the Southern side-chapel of the church dedicated to the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin was equipped and consecrated.
In 1875, the Northern limit was highlighted in honor of the Great Martyr Dmitry Myrotochivy.
Unfortunately, the cathedral did not bypass the tragic fate. From 1936 to 1941 the church was closed. Recall that the Soviet government fought against religion. At almost all times, almost all parishes were closed. Churches and cathedrals, temples, mosques were banned.
In 1956, the Greek church became a temple, which was part of the Alexandrian farmstead. From this moment the temple began to bear the name: the Holy Trinity Church of the Alexandria Compound. In 1999, Alexandria Compound was transferred to Moscow. He was placed in the church of all the Saints, who is "on the kulis." The Odessa Greek Church joins the Odessa Metropolis of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
In 2006, by decision and with the blessing of Agafangel the church was elevated to Cathedral dignity. Since then is called the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
Personal opinion
Each of us will believe in something. Despite the differences in views, each of us is a deeply religious person. It is impossible to live without faith and love. Representatives of these or those peoples strive to pay tribute to their Lord in established, certain places. Accordingly, a church was built for the Greek people in Odessa.
I visited the services several times in this holy place. Spirituality, sublimity, spirituality make services pleasant and desirable. As soon as you step outside the cathedral, you immediately want to visit it again. Unfortunately, I do not have enough time to visit all the holy places of Odessa. And not only Odessa, but all the holy places of the region. I will gradually visit the various holy places of our region. Accordingly, I suggest you get acquainted with all the cathedrals, churches and temples, mosques and synagogues, monasteries and other holy places of our region.
Impresses the fact that the Greek church operates Sunday School. Thanks to this, we can introduce our children to religion. They bring up spirituality, honesty and piety.
