After more than five years, I am back at Ubay Port, now with a toddler! I used to take this port when traveling in college to Cebu and things have changed. I used to ride the JnN ship, it was made of wood and it’s always fully booked. I remember befriending a lot of on the job trainee maritime officers just so I could have a contact and get a ticket reserved so I won’t have to go to the port early every Sunday as its always full of passengers, mostly college students studying in Cebu City.
But when I started working and was able to afford fast craft tickets bound to Tagbilaran City, I somehow had stopped taking this route. So, it has been a lot of years.
This year’s annual summer outing and Cebu getaway, my husband and I decided we take the 8 AM boat schedule from Ubay as it was recommended by a family friend and church mate.
Getting tickets was a little tricky because they do not have an online booking option. We traveled from Guindulman to Ubay for 45 minutes only to find out that it was closed at 10 AM and opens again by 1PM. It was 10 AM when we arrived at their ticketing office and we had to wait until 1 PM.
Nonetheless, we got our tickets which was worth Php 500 per person for their air-conditioned accommodation, it’s just a sitting one though, they have no lying accommodation.
Today, we finally get to the port and was surprised they now have a proper passenger waiting area! It’s air conditioned, very similar to that in Loon and they have a few other boat options enroute Leyte and other part of the Visayas! The old JnN boat is not anymore operational but they got Cockaliong which has 8 AM Ubay to Cebu and 8 PM Cebu to Ubay trip schedules.
I am truly amazed at how clean and very accommodating the port staff. Even the guard at the entrance was helpful! I am happy to be back and very glad they have a fast craft traveling to Leyte too!
And so we got into the Cockaliong roro boat, the seats are spacious, they got free charging stations, their comfort rooms are clean and tidy, the boat staff were helpful and had offered help in carrying my luggage! They got a vendo machine too which has mineral water which my little one enjoyed!
The only disadvantage is that it takes four hours travel to Cebu, it has no proper store for snacks although some of their staff were selling some, the options are very limited.
Still, this is such a good option for those who are from Ubay and the nearby area. I just hope they have online booking options too!
Sharing some of the images from our trip today!
That's it! Thanks for reading and just want to update you that we are currently passing by the CCLEX bridge! Welcome back to Cebu Figues Fam!
